Comments (3)We have the Monogram 36" rangetop, 30" double convection oven with Pro handles and the 42" Monogram hood insert. We are happy with them.It did freak me out when we had company over and the hood turned itself on all by itself--turns out its a safety feature. If the range below gets too hot, it automatically turns on and runs until the temperature falls below the auto threshold. In it's defense, I was using 5-6 burners all at once and I probably should have turned it on myself long before. I really liked the Thermador rangetop look and the star shaped burners, but I couldn't handle the clicking the burners make on simmer (the burners cycle on and off continuously making an annoying clicking sound as they cycle.) Mom has a Thermador double oven that's 7 years old--they've already had to replace the control panel mother board and that was enough for me to take a chance on the Momogram. Like Dodge59 mentions above, most of us have multiple brands in our kitchens. While have Monogram for cooking, we have 2 KitchenAid DWs and a Kenmore Elite badged Samsung refrigerator. Hope this helps!...See MoreMixing regular dishwasher and one or two DW drawers
Comments (10)We went through the same process -- we will have kids at home for another 6 years or more and the extended family gathers here. We are using them both regularly, and I have been glad we got the two full size DW's so we can easily wash mixing bowls and larger items when I want to. It seems to maximize the benefit of having two DWs and I now think I'd be frustrated if I had more limitations on one side. We figure that if we get at least 8 years (had them nearly 2) out of a DW and then decide our lifestyle no longer justifies 2, we have a 24" space ready for some DW drawers, more cabinet drawers, an open cabinet if we put a floor in, a beverage fridge, fridge drawers right next to the sink for veggies, an ice maker and a narrow cutting board cabinet -- lots of options with little change to the space. In the meantime, we have a DW that is quiet, cleans well and cost less than the drawers. I understand the thought process you ar going through. I'm sure either option will be good, but I have no regrets with our choice. And as much as I talk about not worrying about symmetry on this forum, I do like the fact that the two DWs balance on either side of the sink. Of course, the drawers on either side of the DWs are different. ;-)...See MoreHelp! Dishwasher just died. Feature recommendations? Brand?
Comments (19)Thank you everyone for your comments! I have been researching and looking at them in stores and just an hour ago made a purchase and now will wait on delivery and installation next week. Here was my process: With comments and online review I had pretty much narrowed it down to Bosch or Miele, but also looked at KitchenAid to have more options. Miele- there was no one that sold it in town and only one store in the geographic area- it was 30 min away. They did not have prices on their website. I pretty much ruled this one out because online prices were hundreds more than the Bosch and KA and if it needed repairs reports of repairs were very high priced and hard to get service and or parts. Bosch- I thought that this was the one. Looked at models at Lowes and at Sears Hometown Appliance store. Was debating if I wanted the 500 series or pay $100 more to get the 800 series. Today, dragged my husband with me to shop and make a final decision. Went for the first time to a local Mom & Pop appliance store. Looking strictly at KA, since they do not carry Bosch. They had a good selection, the KA were very sturdy shelves, had the third rack, and were quiet. They could order it in white, with recessed handle rather than the bar. I brought our dishes and they all fit. Only downside is the third rack is not set up to hold silverware like the Bosch. They had a cheaper installation fee than Lowes and also do service in house, no need to call an 800 number and hope to get an actual human on the line. Left there and went to Lowes to double check the Bosch. Every rack on the 2 Boschs in the store were broken- one of them just broken since I had looked at them 2 days ago. That was problematic. Also, our dishes did not fit all the tines. And, the tines were tilted so our plates fit funny even in the spaces that they fit. Our cereal bowls did not work at all. We have Fiesta dinnerware for reference. We use the 9" buffet plate and the small bowl- not even the large/regular sized stuff. That decided us- KA it will be! We went back to the local store and couldn't be more happy to buy from them. They had excellent customer service. We are getting the recessed handle because in a galley kitchen I do not want to be catching my hip on the large, industrial style handle they have. Also, I like the controls on the front so that I can see when the machine is on. I am excited to have the option of heated dry if I want and also that I won't have to worry about the "stinky" smell that many Bosch reviews mentioned. No KA reviews mentioned any bad smells. I would have liked to have the silverware on the top third rack, but I am used to baskets so it won't be a big deal. Putting lids and other items on the top rack might even be more useful in the long run. I will let everyone know how it works once we get it in!...See MoreNeed to make dishwasher decision quickly - please help!
Comments (11)Try and fix your Old KA!! If you were OK with the noise level of your old KA, and happy with the way it cleaned, you will never be happy with anything currently available. My previous KA had a garborator and washed Really hot. Barely picked off the bones, never rinsed and always squeaky clean without using rinse aid. No filter to clean. my sister in law still has same model and I have told her to never let it go. Since the KA I have had a new Bosh and now a Miele 2 rack with cutlery basket. Both require dishes pre wiped as there is no garborator, rinse aid is a must as they don't have heating elements and the cycles are super long. But they are quieter. Bosh or Miele? Buy whichever brand will give you the best warranty. We got an everything included 5 year warranty as a promo on the Miele As for getting a new KA. I don't know. Replaced my old KA bottom freezer fridge with pretty much the same model. But it feels so cheap commpared to the Old KA even though it is the same layout. Rollers and baskets rattle and I can not get the door to look level. Very disappointed but few refrigerators are the right dimensions so I am stuck. Yes all the North American models are all the same company and it it looks like they are all poor quality....See Moreshermybeagle
