Worried about Undermount Stainless Steel sink
Comments (20)La koala wrote- "Actually, I'm very intrigued by the idea of this Sink Setter. Do you think it would be viable/helpful in this situation: I want to have a 30 inch undermount single-bowl sink in a 33 inch cabinet. The Ticor description says the sink fits into the cabinet--but I think that the little clips that come with the sink aren't going to work in this case, and the sides of the cabinet will have to be scooped out to allow the sink to fit in the inside. I read somewhere on this forum that scooping the sides reduces the strength of the cabinet, so the support for the sink is less than if you didn't have to scoop the sides. So, do you think the Sink Setter would be a good solution for bracing in that situation?" We are installing a 25" undermount sink into a 24" cabinet-totally pushing it. It requires shaving the sides of the cabinet, and notching the top of the cabinet sides to make space for the flanges. The sink cabinet has been wood-reinforced along the front and back to compensate, and the sides of the next cabinets help too. Like you we don't have room for clips, and little room for many bracing systems. I found out about the sink setter on another forum oriented towards DIYers. We ordered ours online for CAN$28. My engineer husband was very pleased with the design of it because it fully supports the weight of the sink and plumbing - there is no reliance on caulking/epoxy for weight support. Comments (12)I'm in the market for an undermount stainless sink right now and I'm leaning towards Oliveri. There seem to be many good options at reasonable cost though. One thing to consider is the quality of the stainless steel - I really don't like to bash Chinese products in general, but it's a fact that quality of stainless steel produced in China is less consistent than stainless produced in first world countries. Some batches are good and some less so. So I did not consider stainless sinks manufactured in China....See MoreShould I go with Stainless Steel Farmhouse sink I love or undermount ?
Comments (32)Elkay: In case you didn't believe this is a retrofit, here is a "before" picture. The new cutout has bisected the grinder slot that held the sink clip. That's the arc that is filled with stone and color matched adhesive. The plug in the front is the reinforcement rod slot having been ground back and filled. Not bad. I never point these out to the homeowner; once you do, she can never "unsee" them. Run this thread past your technical guys, please. I can't wait to hear the "It can't be done." The secret? Because the bowl is deeper than the apron, you have to tap the cabinet front off. If you put the sink in, you can't get the cabinet front back on. If you put the cabinet front on, you can't get the sink in. You partially put the sink in place, partially put the cabinet front back on, more sink, more cabinet front, until you're done. I never use your provided clips; all my retrofits are strapped in place. Throw a couple of Sink Straps from Regent Stone Products in the box instead, please. Keep making these please. They are moneymakers and the customers love them. Just under 3K....See MoreUndermount stainless steel sink with ledge/work station
Comments (8)Ours has two ledges which I highly recommend. I like that I can slide the colander under the cutting board and stack them on the side and still have room to run the water and use the sink. Nantucket Pro Series has the size that you need. I replaced the colander with a $10 expandable one that will fit either ledge....See Moredarbuka
