How early should I direct sow bush beans in Zone 5/6?
Comments (3)With all due respect to your Dad, bush beans are not a cool weather crop. They are a summer crop. In your zone that would probably mean direct seeding in June. Planted too early - before the soil temps are at least 60 degrees - just leads to seed rot, not germination. And that 60 degree soil temp is the minimum required, 65-75 is listed as the ideal on all germination websites. I linked one soil temp germination chart for you below but there are many others available too via Google. Comments (3)Hmmm well most roses need some form of deadheading or pruning in order to "thrive", however various others tend to bloom and be vigorous despite lack of treatment...AKA Knockouts. While I'm not a fan of Knockouts, they are available everywhere, inluding your local Lowe's, etc. After that, I only know of a few through minimal treatment that have done well. After that, Bucks are the only other roses that come to mind such as the Carefree line of Buck roses such as Carefree Beauty....See MorePlease advise on Condo Mango for Zone 5/6
Comments (8)Thanks for your feedback. I called Pine Island Nursery; they were very honest; told me that in Michigan I would be able to grow the plants but making them bear fruit would be pretty tough chore; specially without a greenhouse. So; I will wait until spring and do some more research. I do not need just the plant; I have raised a few from seed; I would like to see the plants producing fruits. My bay window (southern exposure)in my Master Bedroom has an opening of 10 feet wide by 6 feet tall and gets bright Michigan winter light; I do not know if that would be enough for mango folks....See MoreHuge rose needed, zone 5 cane hardy, grows to 6x6 or more
Comments (23)Yes, it's the same rose. The year I bought my two I think it was listed as 2.5 feet or something odd. HMF says 3-6 feet, but used to say only 3, I think. But funniest is HMF says Ascot grows up to 18 inches wide--mine is about 7 feet. It's a good thing I just happened to plant the one in the photo in a place with lots of room, but I have had to remove a lavender, dianthus, and will remove another big lavender this spring to make way. It's currently duking it out with a huge snowball bush. Who will win? Diane Ascot in 2013--see how far away the snowball is? The rose is touching it now. The lavender on the right is gone and other will soon be gone; it's being crushed....See MoreRelated Professionals
