3katz4me, which email provider do you use regularly or is Outlook your only email account?

I have an Outlook account. It's what I use for any website I join like GW/Houzz, stores/purchases, things like library account, store loyalty etc. I expect there to be junk in there because I know many of the places I give this address to will sell it.

My DH uses Outlook only and long ago and has nothing but trouble. It used to be my main email as well but in my experience Outlook is not as good at filtering as Gmail. That's why I use Gmail for all personal mail. It's a redundant system but it's worked for me for many years and I get no junk or spam in my Gmail.

DLM, I'm getting hundreds of spam emails in MSN each day starting after Christmas. Before Christmas I had more spam than usual, but I attributed it to Christmas advertising, even though the spam included Russian brides and male enhancement products.

I established an Outlook account recently hoping I could switch and avoid the same problems, but that's not working well either. I want to use only one email for personal as well as GW/Houzz, stores/purchases, things like library account, store loyalty etc, which had worked well for 30 (?) years. (I've heard you can tell how old people are if they use and msn.com email - ha!).

I also established a gmail account, but have not used it yet. I really dislike the idea of starting to use it and having the same problems. I might have to get the Geek Squad to help.

I have used free Msn.com (Outlook) for many years as my primary account. It is very very good at filtering spam. For years, I really had very few spam emails coming there - but obviously my address got onto a spam list from somewhere recently (some site that I used this address before I got my Gmail shopping/craigslist/website address) so now I am getting 3rd party advertisement spam daily. None of it reaches my inbox. I don't blame Outlook for this at all - I suspect the address was scraped from another site -most likely facebook or Macy's.

Having seen how facebook has rummaged through my address book, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it sold my address to the spammers.

At least, unlike Gmail, I can easily easily report outright phishing emails as opposed to just marking it spam. Also I can block senders, which I haven't seen a way to do in Gmail. Gmail has also managed to let some spam into my inbox.

I started getting sexy girl come-on spam in my Gmail after I visited a sports website to read a story. I don't think it was a site that I am registered on, either. Gmail didn't filter any of those!

I get a lot but I don't think it's hundreds per day. Same stuff as you though and I attribute much of the 'newer' spam to a particular business I gave my email to recently simply because of the timing of new spam. It's starting to thin out a bit.

I have 2 friends still using AOL email accounts - now THAT'S OLD!!! And one of them SHARES her email with her DH which is a whole 'nuther issue. Drives me nuts.

rae, MSN and Outlook are both Microsoft based. It's apparently a Microsoft problem based on the MS community forum and they're doing nothing to address it. Prior to Christmas it was extremely rare for spam to hit my inbox; it all went to the junk folder and I could easily scroll through a day's accumulation, select all, and delete all. Now I have to scroll through the junk folder several times a day plus my inbox.

Yes, DLM, the shared email always struck me as odd, esp when you couldn't tell who was responding.

Delilah - I have a bunch of email addresses for various purposes - outlook, gmail, yahoo and comcast. My primary email address that I use for people I know and important matters is comcast but I'm shifting some things to gmail. I use yahoo for anything online - anything I think will lead to a lot of advertising/SPAM. Outlook is relatively new since I switched to Office 365. I use it only for my local neighborhood activities and have a separate contact list in there. The rest of my contacts are in gmail.

Ya, that shared email with spouse thing is very strange in my opinion. And for anyone in the market for a job - having an AOL email address is likely to make you the victim of age discrimination as soon as a prospective employer sees it and Yahoo is probably similar.

My main email is mac/icloud and they do a good job of filtering spam. You don't have to be on an Apple product to use it. I also have AOL and yahoo emails that I use for web and shopping purposes. They do get more spam than the icloud, but I don't care too much, since they aren't my primary account.

OMGosh! I don’t know how y’all keep the multiple emails and PWs straight! You are my heroes!

Anything operating on Microsoft 7 no longer gets security or support.

Thank you, jtl. I’m using 10. It looks like someone from Microsoft came to work on MLK Day and started working on the problem. My spam is down to almost normal as is being reported by others on the MS Community forum. Fingers crossed....

I use Hotmail daily and nothing has changed. About the same amount of spam. Looks good.

I think sometimes the email providers are tweaking their SPAM filters. I get very little SPAM anywhere but particularly on Comcast. Once in a while a bunch comes through and I always think they're doing something with their SPAM filters. Sometimes good stuff goes into the SPAM folder - emails from people I know even. It's imperfect but in my experience works pretty well considering all the junk email out there.

DH was getting tons of spam yesterday and earlier today on his hotmail account. It seems to have calmed down.

I have had Hotmail (now Outlook) online as my email for years. I haven't been getting any spam. I just checked the Junk folder and no spam there either, just legitimate retailers that go to my Junk mail folder.
