Finished Basement Band Joist Insulation
Comments (9)Wow! I really appreciate your thoughts. fnmroberts: "do not cover any open ventilation openings" Just want to make sure I understand. We do have a cold air return on the outside wall that I want to fill/stop the 1" - 2" gap at the top of the cinderblock and drywall. Right now, cold air shoots up between that void actually blowing cold air into the room. Is that the open ventilation you meant? worthy/homebound: I would give the professional spray foam option an A+. I even looked into a DIY option but backed away cause it has a high screw up value for me. I won't go into detail about our lack of cash (think orthodontics/root canal and crown) at Christmas ... so, can I get a "B" grade by filling in that void and then use an R-19 or higher insulation? Has anyone used Safetouch insulation? I had to laugh at the "holding the cans upside down" and how "great stuff" is not. I watched my husband create some wild abstract art with that stuff. I'm actually using this daptex insulating foam when I can reach the gaps I'm finding. It actually does clean up with water (I used a pipe cleaner for the straw), has a reasonable flow, and I've used one can several times. Downsides: long shaking, the end of the can loses some discharge power, becoming a contortionist on a ladder to fill gaps like worthy. Thanks again for helping me problem-solve. Sorry this is so long -- Once the drywall's back up, that's it. Cathy in SWPA Here is a link that might be useful: old house - daptex foam insulating...See MoreDining and family room transition help! I don't recall if it was a structural thing (load bearing) or cosmetic, to "anchor" the display area to the rest of the wall. It looked really nice, and I think would be perfect for this area. I don't remember the episode. It was probably Designed to Sell, which is on at lunchtime here and the only time I am likely to watch because of the time of day. IÂm pretty sure it was one of their "fix it up to sell it" shows. It might be the show with the British guy (Clive?) as host. I think I remember the show ending with an open house, and people oohing and ahhhing over those shelves. IÂm not sure about how to search their website; IÂve had problems tracking down shows. As far as the angled table: we always had to turn the table around for big dinners and extend it into the foyer. But I wouldnÂt want to compromise my daily environment for the sake of occasional events; and take out the walls just for that. Someone (usually me) is always squeezed in the corner, no one minds. We also serve buffet style rather than having the serving dishes on the table. That saves space for seating and place settings....See MoreNeed help for exterior paint colors!

Comments (3)thanks! You're right on about the taupe- and I think I've found one that isn't too orange or green, for the porch: China Doll. Green would be nice, but so difficult to get a good combo with both the brick (it's VERY orange) and the cedar. The dark "edge" trim color I like is Urbane Bronze, which has some green in it, which is probably why it looks so nice up there. thanks for your input!...See MoreAllison Benton
