To paint or not to paint? Questions about wood paneling....
Comments (24)That entry is absolutely exquisite! Whatever you do, keep that space the way it is. I do enjoy seeing well preserved specimens of high end mid century interiors. I agree with others about living in the house for a while before you do anything. We bought a mostly unadulterated Victorian, and we had fantasies of getting a bunch of stuff done before moving in (5 months from close to move in), but ended up only refinishing some floors (low impact change). Now I'm super glad we didn't try to do anything - we're getting a sense of how we live in this house (it turns out we use the butler stairs A LOT, and my husband had wanted to tear them out!) and a sense of the small things that wouldn't have even occurred to us before we'd spent time living here, like the fact that we need to add a second ceiling light at the far end of the hall, that we need some more electrical outlets in the dining room, etc....See MoreUpdate to 90s Kitchen/Living Room
Comments (0)My house is dated, very 90s with the original oak cabinets and cream carpet. Hard to tell in the pictures but the original yellowish tan has faded to a green olive and the wall paper is a good 20 years old. Need to update this space. Considering replacing the carpet with wood floor, and repainting the walls a different color. Will be getting new stainless steel appliances in the next year. Any suggestions on how to update this space and what colors you would go with?...See MoreUpdating 90s yellow granite kitchen
Comments (15)I would paint the walls ivory, replace the backsplash with ivory subway tile, and touch up the cabinets. That granite will look fine and far more neutral. You might switch out your lighting for a cooler color and knock down the yellow a bit that way. I also think maybe the reddish bar stools are making the yellow more noticeable, at least in that first picture. I might actually paint them cream, too. Or it might just be the light. Please post your updates! Good luck....See MoreLooking for updates to 90’s kitchen
Comments (13)The things that stand out to me are: Spindles on the island - if possible, I'd remove them, but check how much repair you would need. Curved counter edge on island - are you replacing the island counters? If so, I'd get a straight line edge. Diagonal cabinet over sink - I'd remove it. You can probably use the finished side to attach to the new end cabinet. Over the Range MW - I'd replace it with a true range hood I think the knobs are fine and it would require patching the doors/drawer fronts if you decided to switch to pulls. I would probably only do the drawers, if I did anything. I do find it strange that the cooktop cabinet has cup pulls while all other drawers have knobs. Maybe replace the knobs on the drawers with cup pulls (no patching would likely be needed)? Or not, your call. Cabinets -- what are the interiors of the base cabinets like? Do you at least have roll out tray shelves (ROTS)? If, instead, you have stationary shelves, I would replace them with ROTS. You won't be able to replace them with drawers (which would be best), but ROTS will make a big difference functionally....See Morecdgalo
