If you're just looking at a refresh, keeping your countertops (which look very nice), I'd rework the island and change out the hardware. That's about it. I would not paint the cabinets. It's more expensive than you think and by the time you spend major bucks on paint, you could get new cabinets and greatly improve your functionality (see next paragraph). Just depends on how much you want to do and how much money you want to spend! :)

How do you feel about that corner sink? I had one and pretty much hated it, but that starts you down a path of more than a modest update, including straightening out that angled counter. Also, it doesn't look like you really have room for the island - seems pretty narrow and your aisles are narrow, but it's hard to tell without measured drawings. That little tiny counter between ovens and fridge seems completely useless to me. If you get new cabinets, you'd definitely want to take them up to ceiling or at least finish off that space to close it up, which will make the whole room look bigger.

We have a 90s kitchen that we are in the process of getting ready to redo. ( can't wait). WE have a GE Advantium oven which is a microwave and an oven . It competes with y pot filler for favorite thing in teh kitchen. Ironically ours was over teh range and it always bothered my husband ( i didn't car). Well after 19 years the magnetron went so we had to get a new one which started our whole discussion about a kitchen reno. make a long story short we got a new GE advantium in wall micro and convection oven. I ordered a gorgeous hood from Hoodsly and now I HATE looking at the micro over the range.. I cannot what to start the reno! Moral of the story is consider getting hood you might love it! I agree with above comments too. Love the counter tops and the cabinets. If you fear losing the one of the micro and the sink one consider adding a new bigger more functional piece next to what I assume is your pantry. You can get a prepaid one from Kraftmaid or schuler through lowes in a complementary color. Good luck

The pendant does not fit the style of the kitchen, so definitely I would replace that with something more traditional, perhaps opaque glass, wider/shorter.

I hate knobs personally so I would be looking at pulls for the cabinet doors. Something smooth/sleek, not too modern, not fussy, and stay with the nickel (either polished or satin).

I agree with removing the cabinet over the sink. Either leave the space open, or replace with a traditional wall cab if you can still get a match to the others or maybe shelves. I would get a nice pull down faucet. Do you like your double sink? Changing to a single basin was a revelation to me - but mine was smaller overall, which made a huge difference.

The only thing I would do with the island is get someone to remove the faux legs and add trim to square the corners. You really can't make it larger, from what I can see. I might paint it though, either a white that works with the counters or bring in a neutral color (navy blue?).

Your counter and backsplash are lovely, and your desk is charming! do you use it?

Agree. Really the only things I think should be changed are the pendant and the corner cabinet. Maybe I would straighten out the sink somewhere else. Or possibly replace with white farmhouse style. New hardware would be lovely.

The things that stand out to me are:

• Spindles on the island - if possible, I'd remove them, but check how much repair you would need.
• Curved counter edge on island - are you replacing the island counters? If so, I'd get a straight line edge.
• Diagonal cabinet over sink - I'd remove it. You can probably use the finished side to attach to the new end cabinet.
• Over the Range MW - I'd replace it with a true range hood

I think the knobs are fine and it would require patching the doors/drawer fronts if you decided to switch to pulls. I would probably only do the drawers, if I did anything. I do find it strange that the cooktop cabinet has cup pulls while all other drawers have knobs. Maybe replace the knobs on the drawers with cup pulls (no patching would likely be needed)? Or not, your call.

Cabinets -- what are the interiors of the base cabinets like? Do you at least have roll out tray shelves (ROTS)? If, instead, you have stationary shelves, I would replace them with ROTS. You won't be able to replace them with drawers (which would be best), but ROTS will make a big difference functionally.

I do have roll out shelves and they are useful. If anyone can share pendant images that would be helpful. I agree with the island comments and had similar thoughts. I don’t sit at the desk, but do store paper/stationary items. I was thinking I could possibly replace it with a sideboard or hutch, but open to ideas. Please keep the suggestions coming. It helps me think outside of the box. Thank you all.

We just re-worked our kitchen and in our case decided on replacing all of it. We had the short uppers like yours. In your case, I would consider replacing just the uppers with taller cabinets in a contrasting color, which is still on trend, though just a bit less so. I would do a light color like warm grey or shade of white. Color if you’re open to it. New splash. Keep the rest. I would build in the new micro/oven to the right of the stove at shoulder height with hood above the stove - or replace one of your ovens with a new micro/oven unit there. Lose the angled cabinet and see about changing out one of the recessed lights over the sink with pendent. You can likely put it on a separate switch if you change the tile. Extend cabinets straight to the end or replace with shelves. New lights will freshen the rest.

I would stay with traditional styles. I like this cone. Alternatively, a traditional banded globe or colorful glass shade would also look nice. Your hardware is nice, but changing knobs could also refresh your look. (Other pic was forgotten in my previous post)
