how to decorate walls on either side of french doors?
Comments (16)I'm afraid these curtains don't work. I would keep the focus on the rug and other items and find a heavier material in a solid cream material, or a very subtle cream and blue pattern, and your room will take on a whole different look. The white chair is in an awkward place, you don't have room for it there. Can you place it at the other end of the couch, perpendicular to the sofa? Or, is it possible to move the sofa further away from the chair, and then find a much smaller (apartment-sized) chair to put in the place of the very big one? To be honest, your rug also appears to be too small for your space. It should extend forward another two feet to give more coverage and extend under the gray chair. This rug is pretty, and I hope there is another place where you might use it. You really need mood lighting with a table lamp or two, which would make your scheme look much more complete, and the lighting would be more flattering than a harsh overhead light. I hope you have some paintings on other walls and perhaps books here and there to make this room look complete. Right now it's not a cozy and welcoming space for friends or family....See MoreWhat decor would look good on the walls on both sides of fireplace
Comments (15)I think that one is ugly and doesn't fit your space. search, "Ikea bookcase hack' or Ikea hacks for media cabinet or shelving. there are a ton of ideas. or try something like this. its a large open wall space. make it look nice and display books, or artwork, whatever. they even have an Ikea hack using Billy Bookcases that look like built ins. paint the wall a dark color if doing white shelving for a more custom look...See MoreWidth of stone on either side of fireplace opening?
Comments (6)We’re doing a heat n glo cosmo 42 on our main level with similar proportions to what you’re describing. The wall is approx. 16 ft wide; the fireplace framing is just under 6 ft wide, which leaves approx. 15 inches on each side of the opening. The floating benches to the left and right of the fireplace are approx 4ft each. Still under construction, but here’s some pics to give you a better sense of those proportions....See Moredo you need symmetrical decorations on wall both sides of fireplace?
Comments (8)While this response may seem to be off topic, better furniture placement will help your décor dilemma. Place the sofa…and coffee table, if there is one…so it faces the fireplace. Push the tv/stand back into the corner as far as it can go. Remove the bookshelf. Place the chair/ottoman to the left of the fireplace, with a small drink table beside it. Then hang one of the framed art pieces 6-8” above the chair on the fireplace wall and the second one slightly lower on the adjacent wall. That may be enough to balance the great expanse of the tv on the other side....See MoreMaryAnne Brennan
