what are you cooking in your new kitchen?
Comments (25)I made this last night. Have made it before and it's a winner in our house! Yummy! I cook it longer 'cuz we like the chicken to fall off the bone. Should adjust liquids accordingly because of longer cooking time--I didn't quite add enough last night (left it cooking for a really long time while leaving DH at home--longer than I'd realized), so I had to add more stock/broth and wine shortly before serving. Here is a link that might be useful: Ginger-curry chicken with lentils and leeks...See MoreWhat Is Cooking In Your Kitchen Again?
Comments (34)Thanks for the recommendation about the zucchini. I do think I would like the flavor of it in that dish, but I agree that it might be too watery. Dorie also suggested turnips in place of the butternut squash, and I do love turnips and think they would not be too watery, but the flavor might be a bit strong for that recipe. I think zucchini would go better with the spice mixture. Yesterday we grilled outdoors, to take advantage of the nice weather while we have it, since it is supposed to rain Wednesday and Thursday. The main thing I wanted to grill was my chocolate Habanero chilies for my annual sauce. I ended up getting a very good crop this year and will have enough sauce to give some away as gifts. I grill garlic and red bell pepper with the chilies - the bell pepper to make the sauce go a bit further and cut the heat a tiny bit. Last year I grilled a carrot with the chilies, but I didn't have room in the grill pans this year. We grilled some locally made sausage from Bristol Farms plus some marinated mushrooms and garlic toast. The grill got hotter than expected, and so the sausage came out a bit dry, but I ate it with the mushrooms, which provided the right amount of moisture....See MoreIs Anything Cooking in Your Kitchen This Weekend?
Comments (35)Made my first batch of cooked eggnog on Sat so it could chill overnight. I dose it with rum and bourbon, and like to try different brands. A friend visited Cuba earlier last year (before travel was closed down again) and I told him to buy me a bottle or two of the most expensive Cuban rum he could find. I offered to give him money upfront - I was thinking $100 - but he said since we didn't know what he would be able to find, he'd just ask for reimbursement when he returned. So he comes back with a bottle of 7-yr old rum for me. Gives it to me and says, "$15, please". I'm dumbfounded. "Is that ALL? Really? $15?!? The last specialty rum I bought was $50!" "Oh - well, they did have one for $40," he admitted. I had to close my eyes, I was so pained. Hey, he meant well and schlepped it all the way back to the West Coast to bring to me. And the $15 bottle he did get is absolutely lovely, better than Mt. Gay which is twice the price. I had not opened it until now, and it was a great addition to the nog. The thing is, the rum distillery in Cuba was the original Bacardi Rum factory. When the Communists took over, they kicked Bacardi out but kept making the same rum. I figured this was my only chance to get a true old-style rum - and unfortunately, travel there is now banned again. Sigh. The 7-yr old rum is so good....I and my rum-drinking friend (who also swooned over a taste of it) agree we cannot even imagine what the $40 rum must be like! LOL - that's my holiday anecdote for the season!...See MoreWhat is Cooking in Your Kitchen ?
Comments (42)Hope you're feeling better soon, Raven. Those look delicious, Shambo. Today, we will be making snacks to eat while watching the big 49er vs Packers football game today. We are having spicy red pepper hummus and tabouli purchased from the local farmers market. They will be served with pita chips. We also have tortilla chips and salsa. Some of the leftover pizza from the other night is going to be cut up into squares and crisped up on a cast iron skillet. I am calling these pizza bites. Along with that, we will have a small fruit platter (apple, cherries, raspberries, pineapple and avocado. Not only are the above snacks for the game, they are also going to be considered our dinner....See Morekatrina_ellen
