Edge of tile backsplash: would quarter round wood trim look weird
Comments (23)Hey there - I was going to suggest the schluter edging as well - we used it on a floor, and a friend has it in her kitchen and while I'm not like "WOW! Awesome edging!" I basically don't notice it. It comes in an awesome copper color that blends perfectly into slate... but that's probably not helpful to you! Also comes in brass-like and brushed stainless-like. We used a mix of tile behind the stove and beadboard everywhere else, so wood was already in the mix. That being said, we used .5" x 1" sticks to frame out the subway. I hated it at the time, but now, again, don't really notice it. May not be for everyone, but here's a pic so you can see what I'm talking about - we did buy the bullnose pieces for where the tiles are next to the painted (orange) wall - but needed a transition between the beadboard and tile - bullnose wouldn't have worked well and the tiles and beadboard are different thicknesses, so they didn't make a smooth transition on their own....See MoreOptions for transition from tile to wood
Comments (16)rinq Maybe I wasn't clear, while coherence is important, I'm looking for a way to hide the tiles and the transition from tile to wood. I want to mask as much as possible the tile floor of the kitchen - so that we'll see as little as possible of the tiles. That's why I'm leaning towards option 1 . But then there is the problem of the transition line that ends at the middle of the drawers......See Morewood tile to wood floor transition?
Comments (4)Not sure I'm following with the "age of the hardwoods" issue, but I've never seen the traditional wood tile look anything remotely close to actual hardwood (grout lines, repeating patterns) - but one alternative: they make some interesting parquet type wood tiles. https://www.tilebar.com/barberry-decor-nocciola-24x24-matte-porcelain-tile.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw1PSDBhDbARIsAPeTqrfwSflz_oEHC6XQTPXeJvsJm_UWSWm355e1emzHFzt5DxvLVZ6ZJNsaAumiEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds Depending on the style of your home, if you found something like this in a similar stain/color, it could work....See MoreSwapping kitchen and dining room: flooring transitions and materials?
Comments (19)I might be confused, but it seems the measurements in the black/white drawing are not the same as the measurements in the HD drawing. I went with the black/white for the overall dimensions and worked in the HD for the detailed. I just thought I'd go ahead and get something drawn up to hopefully spark some ideas. Maybe you can check on the dimensions. This is nothing revolutionary, but it will function nicely. All windows and doors left intact To increase natural light I'd invest in a large patio door (3 panel, 9 feet?) across the back of the dining room rather than remove the wall. And maybe trim back some trees and shrubs. 42" aisles Extra clearance on the window side of the island for 2-3 counter stools. Narrow pull-out pantry Fridge tucked out of sight, but convenient to the living room A lot of worktop and storage around the range Unfortunately, minimal amount of counter around sink but looks like the same in the HD plan...See More
