Comments (44)Move it now. Temps are cool but not terribly freezing so the ground should be very workable and we're in a dry-stretch, great for working and the rains to come before Spring will help it establish well. Dig a nice sized rootball if you can, the bigger the better. The one suffering some leaf burn I'd recommend leaving it there IF the damage is not severe each year. Eventually the burn will lessen some and the color will be greatest in this situation, especially if you can provide it with quite a bit of water. If the damage is severe, move it to a spot that gets shade from about 3pm on in Summer. A rootball for the trees should be something at least similar to the size of the pot you bought them in, or if you didn't buy them, to roughly the size pot you see similar trees in at a local nursery. A 2'x2' 'circle sounds right here. Goodluck! -Will...See MoreHeirloom Apples and Chinquapins, oh my!
Comments (4)Here are some other local/semi-local fruit tree growers: Hidden Springs Nursery in Cookeville, TN - many types of fruit trees, small but interesting catalog Big Horse Creek Farm (www.bighorsecreekfarm.com) in Lansing, NC - apple trees Vintage Virginia Apples (www.vintagevirginiaapples.com) in North Garden, VA - apple trees I don't know of anyone locally growing peaches commercially or propagating peach trees. Early spring frosts can be a problem with peach production in Tennessee. It is possible, just not common. Tell us more about your orchard. Comments (141)Amberley- We are going for an unfitted look in our kitchen and have had a pine work island table an 2 jam cupboards custom made and because of budget the rest of the cupboards will be Ikea Tidaholm. We're doing alot of customizing ourselves so although they might not be our first choice in doors they are a simple shaker that we think will blend in well with our other period pieces. I would really like to have the doors sprayed but cannot find a single place in Toronto who will spray them in F&B. Most places like to use their own brand. I know you can't color match BM to F&B and thats why I don't want to waste Old White on the cupboards. I thought it would be easier to pull off a cream/off white color in BM and use Old White on the walls. We're putting on a fairly large addition and doing all our own work so having someone else paint the cupboards is a gift we decided to give ourselves.I guess the other alternative is to break down and just do it.The problem with that is that they have to be sanded as well, my least favorite job, I think I recall that you were going to go with Ikea doors as well or order from Shers(spelling?) Did you paint your own and if so what kind of a finish did you get? Your kitchen is going to be gorgeous and your house looks beautiful as well. It's old is is not? Comments (91)My wife asked me what "refulgent" meant - she'd found it in a magazine article. I was able to tell her that it turns up in a song in the Mikado, but I didn't know what it meant. So we looked it up - it means "shining, brilliant or radiant" - and it's marked in my dictionary as "Literary". I've just looked up the G&S - I was actually wrong! This is the song I was misremembering. The sun, whose rays are all ablaze With ever-living glory, Does not deny his majesty He scorns to tell a story! He don't exclaim, "I blush for shame, So kindly be indulgent." But, fierce and bold, In fiery gold, He glories all effulgent! And what does "effulgent" mean? Radiant, brilliant... I have to say that in my opinion, both effulgent and refulgent sound downright unpleasant - it's a surprise to me that they don't mean as they sound. Is there a word for the opposite of onomatopoeia?...See Morelucillle
