Floor heating systems HELP? Do they heat a room?
Comments (16)Bud, I never said that your intelligence is lacking. I'm saying your familiarity with the product the op first mentioned and that I'm talking about is lacking. There's a HUGE difference between the two. The way these things are supposed to work IS in writing. It's written all over their product information, spec sheets etc. As I said, if you're talking about a cheapie plug in towel warmer, I agree with you, but these things are designed to act as radiators. They are sized and rated in the same way radiators are. They are made by radiator manufacturers. There are other radiator options out there besides just baseboard. That there is a place to hang your towel off of them is in many ways incidental to the true function of the piece of equipment. Actually some of those runtal units are pretty large. The largest electric omnipanel is 5' tall and 2' wide, with hydronics getting even larger. I'm thinking of replacing the 4' section of baseboard in my downstairs bath, which is really not adequate to heat the space, with a runtal onmipanel because I can size it better for the room without taking up more space (and have it replace a towel rack). Maybe it's just because of what a huge splurge my myson was (based on style) but the runtal units seem a good buy for the money (though not as inexpensive as those econoheat things!)...See MoreIf I get a cork floor, do I need radiant heat?
Comments (2)Hi honeychurch, Cork is warmer in the sense than other flooring coverings in the heated room. If you are not planning to heat your kitchen, that will not help much to reach the comformtable level to your feet. If you can get your subfloor flatten well and use quality sound underlayment, you will be perfectly fine to float your cork in the kitchen. Thank you and I hope this will help....See MoreI need a zwave thermostat 2 stage heat pump plus backup heat

Comments (4)The OP's description of the equipment suggests he will be buying it himself directly and then asking an HVAC contractor as a separate matter to install it. My experience suggests that the better HVAC contractors won't have any interest in doing such a job. Zero. They want work where the install, maintenance, and warranty service (if needed) involves equipment they've sold. A one-off "come install this system I bought directly and then go away" won't be a something they want to do. The building trades are booming here - someone with time available and an interest to do this isn't someone you'd want to hire. If you're thinking of a window AC, get a window heat pump instead. It will provide heating and cooling. If you want a nicer appearance, unless this is an out building, have it mounted in the wall and not in a window. Or, get a PTAC heat pump, like in motel rooms. PG+E will be happy with you....See MoreUser
