The "barn door" hardware that you want is by Peterson if I recall correctly, but maybe I'm wrong. We were in same position--we're into doors yet didn't have adequate walls to put pocket doors into, so at one point I pursued this idea. The barn door can roll aside into an open space, if there's a suitable header to carry it. It is possible to create an interior "barn door" without looking rustic. This is important to acknowledge, since there are so many rustic models to muddy the mental image. Another problem with concept in the abstract is that most visuals are in high-end architect-designed spaces, so the cost starts out at high and goes up from there. Trying to find images of it in more humble surroundings is tough. There was one in a kitchen in Better Homes I think, abt 3 yrs ago, which was my inspiration for considering the idea. Bi-fold doors can be a pain because they jump the track, but if you have good hardware and if you don't close them very much so you don't have to listen to them or fight them, they are a good space saver. Louvered ones allow air flow to closed areas, if the area doesn't have its own circulation vents. Is it possible to do on a large scale one of those sets of doors like the kitchen designers use on t.v. cabs and appliance garages in which the pair of doors is opened to the outside and then shoved back into a side position flanking the interior of the cabinet? Unlike a regular hinge, this allows items to remain closer to the door area inside the "swing" zone.

Pammyfay, thank you so much for your opinion and making me feel better about my choices since I have never chosen matting and frames before. I love the Sovia frame and I am glad I went with my instinct. It is so pretty in person with the black grooves on the sides adding some style to the frame without it being too busy for the print. When I opened the package, I was so in love with the picture the way it was. But tonight seeing it lean on the wall and I guess the linen off-white mat picked up the creamier wall color (BM Bone white I have on the walls which is a few shades darker than the picture's linen off-white frame and the lighting is fluorescent modern lamps with no natural light at night. But standing in front of the picture has me in awe of the beauty of the print and the texture of the linen mat and the texture of the suede inner mat. I love the design I chose but I guess I pictured the mat looking less creamy. So glad you also love the black grooved frame and you could tell by the picture I posted. :) Thanks for letting me know you have a similar frame that sounds beautiful.

I think you really need to look at the costs associated with moving walls and the kitchen and bath to get an office and curved stairs. The easiest and cheapest solution is to put your office in either bedroom and leave the floor plan the same. Take the money and time you save to update the kitchen and bath fixtures if needed but You still have not shown us what you are starting with except the stairs. Please post pictures of your current space! I think this is a waste of time and money unless you've found that money tree I've heard of. Good luck though. We really DO need more info from you to give you better solutions.
