This weekend's project aka What a mess I have to clean up!
Comments (18)Beth.......... You have my greatest sympathies. Gardening on multiple levels has felt totally impossible from the beginning. When I am working on one level, the weeds are thriving on the other levels. Argggggggh. Hauling mulch up from the street level to the gardening levels is hard labor, too. I thought it was my time management that was the problem. The problem is that it is incredibly difficult for one person to manage all of that work. Then add the heat we both experience and it just gets overwhelming. I did check with the lady who runs our local garden center and she did say that Preen will not harm the roses. I may not like using chemicals to control weeds, but I have had to give up and use some. You have so many beautiful roses, I know this must be very distressing for you. All you can do is keep at it one day at a time. Smiles, Lyn...See MoreHelp--I have a huge mess to clean up
Comments (4)My situation was similar to yours about nine years ago. 1/2 acre corner lot with not much green growing but buckthorn! The woody area was filled with garlic mustard, buckthorn, different tree logs/branches (previous owners cut down and left), wild blackberries, etc. I now have all of the above gone, even most of the neighbor's buckthorns. I need to speak to neighbor about the remaining one, because I'm constantly weeding out the seedlings. Can't turn your back on them for one second. I did use round up on the larger stumps after cutting down, because if you just cut, they will regrow bigger and better. Some I dug out, some pulled out easily, some I kept cutting down, etc. I tried every method. I even hired a crew to get rid of them, but that was a waste of money. It all grew back the next year. Guess they just cut it, but didn't get all the roots. I was gullible back then. LOL. Keep up with it and you will see a difference soon. No easy way, sorry. The creeping charlie can be controlled with weed b gone in the lawn if it's that bad, otherwise proper lawn practices and reseeding the grass every fall will help. I don't like to use herbicides, so I do try to be responsible, but when faced with a neglected overrun property, it helps to use some in the beginning. Soon, you will have plenty of time to enjoy all the natives you have growing like the bloodroot and trilliums. Good luck to you. Oh, I don't know what that rampant weed is in your photo. Sorry. But if it's that fast growing, I'd be scared. LOL....See Morestill cleaning up the mess
Comments (14)Seems to me the broken pipe is 'a common element' to the building. Repair and cleanup should be paid for by the apartment owner or condo association as a whole. There are cleaning companies that deal with situations like this as their main business -- after fires, floods, etc. (Their crews generally wear masks, too!) I'd file a complaint!...See MoreI have a unique mess to clean up.
Comments (14)I wish I'd known about the Billy Goat. In 2007 we had a hurricane force storm here and it blew a wall of windows out of my semi enclosed front porch, across a side yard and some of it close to my neighbors front door, but reasonably large pieces. I picked up glass for days (wearing just surgical type latex gloves), and was finding bits here and there working in the flower bed under that window wall (which then became a solid sheet of safety glass just faux framed to look like individual panes) still 5 years later when we moved. DH was confident he'd gotten most smaller bits with our strongest bagging mower, and no accidents happened, not with us or the neighbors pets. But I really sympathize with you, this sounds like smaller shards and I had no children playing there. Even though it was Dec, we had no snow to complicate things either. I wish you luck, let us know what you can arrange....See Morejlsch
