They could have covered surfaces with plastic to help protect a few things..

Construction dust no matter the kind covers everything..it's such a pain..and believe me...you'll find a surface you missed once or twice more over the next month..lol

nope. no warning. It was an emergency situation, but they could have at least CALLED. And, yes..they SHOULD have thrown plastic over the couch and coffee table at the least.

Had insulation blown in my walls today. I think, my house mirrors yours. I had stuff covered... but already swept, vacuumed, and mopped the majority... still have an area covered in boxes, from the stuff from the kitchen cabinets.

what a mess.... at least, I have a chance for lower power bills... and you only have a mess

We had the same problem several years ago. Luckily I was away that day and DH had to live with the hours of jack hammering that went on for hours. They said they had never dealt with such a thickly poured cement slab.

How frustrating for you. I came home once to a wall torn out because of a pinhole pipe leak that was flooding the apartment under mine. I was lucky, though, because the maintenance people cleaned up really well.

What a mess! And no, I don't think breathing in all that dust would be good. I'm sorry!

You need to get the laptops vacuumed out that kind of dust can cause overheating. You can take them to a local repair shop and have them open them up and get the dust out.

What a nightmare for you. I would think the apartment building would be responsible for the cleanup. The crew should have covered your furniture and electronics too. You shouldn't have to clean it up. How overwhelming that would be. I'm so sorry that you had to face the mess on top of being sick.

Thank goodness it's a small apartment. Sorta like a studio, but with a bedroom.

I just really needed to vent. The BF says, it's done. No sense getting upset about it. I thought I shoulda gone to the manager, and I will about the AC.

Oh my! That happened to my neighbors too, but it was their entire kitchen that fell. Cost them a lot of money and insurance would not cover it. I hadn't really thought of the dust issue till you mentioned it.

Could they have blocked off the kitchen with heavy-duty plastic to keep the dust contained in that one room? That's what they did when my sister had her kitchen remodeled. No dust anyplace else. And, no, I wouldn't want to breathe that stuff. Here's a (((Jean))). Sorry you had to go through that mess!

I'll bet they used a concrete saw. Its faster and more straightforward for them, but it creates clouds of dust that goes everywhere. If they had used an electric jackhammer it would have taken them longer, and been more work for them, but would have required much less cleanup afterward for you.

I'm sorry. I wouldn't be happy either. At least you will have a clean house afterwards. :))

Seems to me the broken pipe is 'a common element' to the building. Repair and cleanup should be paid for by the apartment owner or condo association as a whole. There are cleaning companies that deal with situations like this as their main business -- after fires, floods, etc. (Their crews generally wear masks, too!) I'd file a complaint!
