Is this a Minerva bud or some exciting mislabeled?
Comments (11)Thanks, Donna. I think you were right that it could be Ambience. I took some more pictures of new blooms and they have a little bit more red, but nowhere near as red as yours, Donna. Maybe this is their first year blooming and stressed from not having much roots yet. Hopefully next year. Although I also like this whiter variation on the other bulb as it ages:...See MoreExcited about new growth finally.
Comments (17)Stush, I just googled that Agave you said it was and Just yesterday I was showing my wife an Agave Desmetiana var. and not knowing the name Or that you had sent me one like it, because all this time as I mentioned I thought it was a sanseveria plant. I was telling her I wanted one like that as we were walking on the beach we saw one and I said to her, Thats the type I want to get my hands on next not knowing I have one already and thanks to you. Well today I find out I have one in a 2 inch container no wonder you kept telling me to take it out and put it in the ground Or a larger container. It had already developed roots gallore and was trying to Bust out of that little container you sent it in and i thought this whole time it was my fastest growing sanseveria plant LOL... Stush , I dont know if you can tell but I am so excited right now so all I can say is thank you again. Greg...See MoreSome exciting new growth
Comments (2)If this was my plant, this is what I would do. I would carefully remove the plant from the plastic pot. Do not disturb the roots to the new growth. If possible remove some of the old potting media from the older roots, but if that is difficult, forget it. You do not want to damage the newest roots in any way. Place the plant in a slightly larger pot, clay would be best. Use small bark if you can find it (you can order a small bag on line). If you can't get small bark, use an orchid mix from one of the big box stores. Soak the bark mix overnight before repotting. Carefully place the plant in the new pot without disturbing any new roots. Water well and place the plant in the brightest spot in your house or outside for the summer (shady/bright, not direct sun). Fertilize with each watering at half strength. If all goes well, you should get flowers from that new growth this winter. Jane...See MoreExciting first year Redbud Growth
Comments (15)I've already had some surprise chews on one of my persimmons too. So strange I would have thought that this time of the year the critters could find something leafy to munch on. I've had the same problem. One of my 1" dia. Red Oaks had a couple of bites taken out of the lower trunk last July and one of my Acers had several bites taken back in April, after the snow was gone and the grass was green already. The rabbit population is very high right now, (in my area) and I have been told that there is a disease called Tularemia that spreads as the rabbit population gets very high. This disease can make rabbits do odd things not normal to their natural behavior. So maybe that explains a lot of what's going on. It also can kill the infected rabbits and over the period of a couple of years, causes a significant decline in the rabbit population. This is why the rabbit population has high and low cycles every 5 to 7 years. For a couple of years, you won't hardly see a wild rabbit and have hardly any rabbit damage during that time, then as the population increases and the disease increases because of over population, rabbit damage also increases. Chicken wire is cheap insurance. A 6 ft. long piece will give you around a 2 ft. diameter cage. Two of those 3 ft. $1 plastic garden stakes and you're good to go. I made this 1 ft. dia. one for a maple and have larger ones for shrubs with branches and smaller trees. Easy to install and easy to remove and reusable. Just thread the posts in & out through the loops in the wire. Sturdy and strong....See MoreSoCal Stewart (San Diego, Ca Zone 10A/10B)
