Comments (10)All insightful advice. Thank you! I would never discard the plant. I was just doing some soul searching about having what I want versus the chance of needlessly offending. I don't think MIL would be offended for my replacing it or moving it, but I want to be careful because it is the family that views her not only as the matriarch, but guru of gardening (though it seems that only I know she cares solely about vegetables, and has no flower gardening experience, which I think she would freely admit). I do have a great relationship with my MIL. I guess I am trying to be careful because people are more important than plants to me. The truth is that MIL has seen it bloom, and even if I replaced it tomorrow, she probably would not recognize the bloom (or the plant) as being a stella d'oro, or even a different plant. So, I guess it is not about the lily at all. I think the suggestion that I will take is to bring it up to MIL that I treasure the lilies, but have found a much better spot (which is true) to put them. She doesn't need to know that they are not what she thought, and definitely not a rebloomer. That way MIL can remain the garden guru of the family and no feelings will be hurt. Thanks for the ideas!...See MoreNew England dilemna
Comments (8)I started peppers March 15-16, started hardening off June 2 this year, but didn't get them transplanted until June 17-18 due to some heavy rains (moved them inside the garage then) and transplanting 200 tomatoes in early June. There are only so many hours in a day (and only so many days the first 2 weeks of June that I could get outside)! This is the latest I've ever started peppers, I started the tomatoes even later, figuring on a late spring like last year. This June wasn't quite so cold and rainy as last year though. Next year I'll start earlier since I should have plastic on the tunnel in March (or as soon as the snow melts and the mud isn't too deep to get back to my main growing area)....See MoreUpper cabinet dilemna in my 'impossible' kitchen???
Comments (17)Rob p: LOL!!! I can't believe it but you had my house, or one of the same ones! ( yes, Irvine) Did yours have the high ceiling vault like mine? So you really know what kind of situation I'm dealing with. Your 'After' kitchen is very nice, especially the cabinet that crosses the window area. Very attractive and creative. I'm definitely going to consider your approach; it's better than some others I've seen in the neighborhood and the style is similar to my target as well. One question: how was it to live with the kitchen directly open to the living room like that? Does the whole thing seem different since it's now just one big room? That's the one issue I'm concerned about; I really would like to keep some of the separation intact. Please let me know. Too bad you moved or I could have seen how the whole thing felt! One more thing...what did you do with the horrible master bath with the mirror down at chest level below the counter window? What a mess!... Ging9: I really like your pics. Your Before pics actually give me an idea of what those high separating cabinets could look like, and the after pics are lovely as well. Like I said to Rob p, I'm debating the amount of "openness" to the living/dining area I can handle ( this is the only living room, not a family room space) Buehl, Thank you so much for drawing up these plans. I can really see how moving things around, including the window, might help expand the possibilities. I also like that you are trying to preserve some of the separation between the spaces, which I might like. Question; How high do you think the 42" upper cab, next to the range, could be off the counter? Also, what about a similar layout but keeping the window where it was, so as to frame the view outside from the living/dining area ( instead of the fridge?) Got to find out what the ramifications are of moving that window......See MoreExterior curb appeal dilemna
Comments (5)I’m sorry you hate the current paint scheme. I think it works! Here is something that I think it will help and that is adding a brick veneer to the foundation that matches your current brick. This will add color and texture and then the house won’t look so stark. With that addition, you could do a nice brick/paver or brick/slate walkway to the driveway. With the brick, you could pull an orange or red color to pop the front door. Not a fan of the porch idea if you don’t want to block the light to the basement. Absolutely I would extend the deck and then do the brick/paver combo over to the addition. I think the deck could help tie in the trim if you painted the rails and posts the trim color and add lattice if that is not a useable space. Head to your local nursery and have them creat a plan for you. Then you can do landscaping as your funds allow....See More- 4 years agolast modified: 4 years ago
