CamG - Luxury vinyl tile planks
Comments (19)We did LVT as well, but after about a year are noticing some issues. Namely some high traffic areas are end-buckling, and some areas around multiple wall intersections are gapping. We're okay with it overall since hardwood likely would have done the same, but it seems like with the floating floor (which ours is), that there's been some shifting around as the house dries and cures this first year. A little sad, but they've held up amazingly well with the pets and fact that we track all kinds of dirt into the house. Some scratches (we're pretty hard on floors), but the DH husband reminds me it would be WAY worse if it was real hardwood. Most people can't tell the difference to be honest....See MoreLuxury Vinyl Plank or tile?
Comments (8)I'm curious about people's responses to this as well. I've always been set on wood look tile for our entryway, half bath, dining room, kitchen, and mud room (open concept) but I've been having second thoughts because it seems cold and unwelcoming. I live in Indiana so cold weather is here to stay. We have cheap laminate currently which the previous owners put in and I hate. The LVP options are sure tempting and install costs and time would certainly be less. Our house is less than 10 years old and on a cement slab so I'm hoping that our floor is pretty even....See MoreCan I glue down vinyl plank over particle board?
Comments (10)Even if you decide to glue down the vinyl plank over the particle board (which isn't ever really recommended) you wont get your desired outcome. Particle board isn't a smooth and flat surface and vinyl has extremely little forgiveness for subfloor discrepancies. Either pull the particle board out and install a new 1/4" plywood for your subfloor, or for the smoothest and flattest installation, remove the particle board, install wire mesh and pour self leveling mix and allow to cure before installing the vinyl. Granted, that added prep will cost more, but depending on how long you would like your vinyl flooring to last, it is the best option for long term. And it gives you a truly flat subfloor for your vinyl. Comments (25)I brought a sample home from Home Depot and could scratch it with my fingernail. Having said that, we went with a different brand as mentioned in my earlier post. it has a 5 mil wear layer with some kind of cerama beads, (I forget all the lingo I learned when researching ours). and I have never found a scratch on ours. We put it throughout our 1,000 sq ft cabin and also in our TV room at home. We have a 10+ lb. cat that tears around like a maniac. All claws intact. The wear layer is very important. It is recommended to put felt pads on all furniture feet. Makes for very easy moving of chairs etc. anyways. That way you shouldn't have to worry about scratches so long as there is no sand or stones lingering on the floor. But the felt pads would help minimize a problem anyways....See MoreUser
