Need advice to makeover my living room
Comments (14)Just some thoughts.......... I would definitely get rid of the behemoth entertainment center and get something smaller. The one you have now actually blocks part of the nice windows. You have a newer TV and don't need a big ET for it. I would just paint the end tables and coffee table maybe a matte black. They look sturdy and clean lined. When painted they would have a bit of an Asian influence and look more contemporary. Its cheaper to paint than to buy new ones. I would cover the planter and make it a ledge. I would install tiny pendant lights replacing the cam light overhead. This will help define the foyer area. Tiling the foyer area would help define it and be more functional since that area is where dirt and slush from outside land. I would paint out the backs of the book shelves. Also remove the doors on the bottom and put in some large baskets to hold your stuff. This would break up the big 'wall-o-wood' look that it has now. Use a warm color for the walls so that the wood wall blends in better. Since the paneling goes all the way to the ceiling, use a warmer white on the crown molding. Stark white is too harsh when lined up with the wood. Don't change the brick or the mantel. They go with the house. The fireplace looks very nice. Painting the screen to bring down the shininess would be better though. If you do not open and close the shutter doors and use them, I would remove them. Do you use the ceiling fan on the living room ceiling a lot? If so, you need to keep it of course but otherwise it could go. The idea to put a bar in place of the desk.......Do you NEED a bar near the foyer to offer guests a drink when they come in? If so, then it would work for your needs but I think a narrow cabinet or table would be the better choice. Consider adding a rug to anchor the furniture. Nice heavy drapes would make the room look cozy and balance things out. I would stick to solid color instead of a busy print for such a small room or use a print that is tone on tone....See MoreDesperately need advice for flower bed / landscaping makeover!
Comments (2)I am usually not a fan of roses as foundation plants in the front. I do not like thorns next to a walking path or entrance. The other reason is that only passers by get to enjoy the view of front roses. I am selfish enough to want roses where I relax in the back garden. I would fill most of your front beds with a ground cover plant that could be mowed from time to time. Some months ago we had a thread asking for curb appeal on a house but I found their garden so impressive that I kept a picture of it. I don't know the type of plant but you can see it is low, attractive and uniform. I see some Hostas but I do not think they are needed. If it is not invasive in your area I would use something like Ceratostigma plumbaginoides. I see a vine near a corner on the right side of your house. I would remove that if you do not enjoy gardening minutiae. I like vines but they require some tying and training in the beginning. My impression is you have other things you would rather do. I also see many medium to large shaped shrubs in back and on the side of your house. If you do not enjoy shearing shrubs I suggest removing some of them and training others to be more tree like with exposed trunks on bottom. Another thought is to replace them with plants that do not grow as large. Such plants do exist but it requires more patience in choosing plants. The front of your house has a balanced look and does not require being smothered in plants to be attractive. I like annuals so I would recommend leaving an open space near the entrance for seasonal color....See MoreKitchen Wall Color and Future Makeover Advice

Comments (6)I'm thinking the table you linked is too extravagant for the setting. I love the idea of the painted cabinets and also a white table and chairs, there are so many online, check out overstock. Just my opinion, yes, try painting the green on the table white or you can look for a less ornate table like this one https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/one-allium-way-hallows-creek-dining-table-w003126003.html?piid=256754392...See MoreRelated Professionals
