Need Pics of tropical/Caribbean/British Colonial kitchens
Comments (19)Kitchens and the Caribbean; 2 of my favorite topics! I think you can find some inspiration by looking at vacation rental homes in the Caribbean. (I look on VRBO.com for homes when I visit St John in the USVI. I've also used windspree.com and Destination St John and there are many more. If you google villa rentals caribbean, you'll find links to lots of houses and they all include kitchen pictures. Yes it takes some digging but might be worth it!) Many of them have beamed ceilings, big paddle ceiling fans, and often with bright colors. Here's the kitchen from the beach house on Lovango Cay: OK this one's a bathroom but it shows the exposed wood walls and beams that I see in some Caribbean houses (this one is Just Enough on St John): These colors look so tropical to me! Christmas Cottage, STJ; and Starlit Escape; STJ: Starlit Escape is the first house I stayed at on STJ. The kitchen has cypress beams on the ceiling; kind of dark but very pretty: Reef Madness, STJ; beams, yellow, rock wall (common in many of the villas) HTH...See MoreHow to decorate around a wood stove?
Comments (2)You have a beautiful "Franklin Fireplace." I would love to have it! You'll be amazed at the warmth it gives. No other type of heat will warm you like a wood-burning stove. Congratulations. We're remodeling our three-seasons' porch into a four-seasons' porch this summer. We will be putting in a corn burner stove with a glass front...but it's not nearly as large and pretty as yours. Our exhaust pipe will go out through the wall horizontally. We plan to have a flag stone hearth under the stove and more stone going to the ceiling behind the stove. I don't plan to "decorate" it as such, but in the summer I'll keep live plants on it. There will be a mantle set into the stone work; I'll probably hang some sort of artwork above it....See MoreKeep or lose decorative ceiling beams?
Comments (17)Agree, with 8 foot ceilings those beams would make it feel claustrophobic and busy. It will completely change the character of the house (in a good way, at least by my eye). Just be prepared that bringing down may open up a few cans of worms (such as the fireplace and possibly refinishing the entire ceiling). I'd put in crown moulding instead if you want to keep a similar style to the house (not contemporary/MCM)....See MoreDecorating bedroom wall with vaulted ceiling
Comments (33)Orange is just not working with the floors or the wall color...keep it simple if you like more mid century modern....add light colored chests...mid century style like I posted...keep blue lamps size will work well with large chests....add neutral more organic style rug.....remove existing chair and bring in the dark brown leather you mentioned...a large black and white piece of art over bed will look amazing with the color of the accent wall you have now...keep it simple add burst of color in pillows and a throw...cover bench in that rich royal blue that is draped over the bench. furniture placement... move dresser to large wall where the tall armoire is...put a large mirror over it with a large lamp. put tall armoire where the dresser and tv was add a low console next to the left of the door across from bed for TV......See Morenatebear zone 10B
