I'd consider 2 colors and paint each color on facing walls (e.g., color 1 on north and south; color 2 on east and west walls.) Bigger pictures on walls. If art is cost prohibitive, maybe your kids can create something? Or have a friend take a pic of you with the kids and have it blown up large and framed. You can do cool effects now with software -- make it look like an oil painting, or sepia toned, or an Andy Warhol look, depending on what you like. It's YOUR space so celebrate you and get colors you love. Maybe jazz it up with some new fun drapes (Crate and Barrel now sells Marimeko by the yard. And IKEA has some fun things too.) It looks like you have an extra curtain rod up? You can remove it or put up a scarf or valance. The wall across from the window looks kind of bare, so I'd consider putting a dresser there. And if it feels cold, I'd swap out the rocker for a nice cozy arm chair with an ottoman, so you can curl up and read. (I have a lovely wooden rocker in my MB too and have yet to sit in it.) If you don't use the ceiling fan, a lovely light fixture could add a nice warm glow. A good way to start is by leafing through magazines and catalogs or browsing online, and starting a folder of looks you love for ideas. Check Craig's List, eBay, and Costco if you're a member for furniture deals. (We got a lovely BR set from Costco: king storage bed with headboard, chest, dresser, 2 night stands and a huge framed mirror) for a great price and the quality is terrific....See MoreDecorating this wall in our master bedroom... Comments (11)Your room is very nice. But I think to fill that wall with art/photos, you're either going to have to have very large pieces or many of them. It's not possible to tell from the one view, but the first thing I thought when I saw your pic is that I would move the head of the bed over to that wall. I am assuming there is a window on the other side of the bed to match the one we see? If so, then that wall between them is much smaller for hanging art. It also might be possible to partially block the view of the dog crates if they are behind the bed when entering the room (or could they go on the wall the door is on, so they aren't so prominent from the door view?) Placing art above the dog crates is going to look odd and unfinished to me....See MoreBedroom Decor and Wall Art
Comments (9)Hi Maddie. You're off to a great start. But I do see areas that can be tweaked and improved on. I agree that there is a struggle with the desk placement and dresser placement. Is this a shared college apt where you need a desk in your room? I see a chair peaking out from the corner. What does that side of the room look like? Stand at the window to the right of your bed and take a photo that captures all of the opposite side of the room and then do the same from the left side of your bed so we can get an idea of actual space. Can you measure and draw a floorpan? You have a lot in the room and there may be alternator arrangements that work better. As far s above your bed two or three square art pieces depending on their size would work well. You lamps are a bit on the short side. I see the mustard throw and pillows. Is this a color you want incorporated in the room? I would lose the mirror above the dresser. It dates the space. I am not opposed to a mirror but an interesting one that hangs on the wall would be a more updated feature. Round and framed in the same color as your hardware like a thin black metal framed round mirror for instance. Is you desk also used as a vanity? Is that the reason for the mirror there?...See MoreTray vs. flat ceiling in Master Bedroom (vaulted an option too)
Comments (59)@njseventyfour I meant put the two adjacent in the corner - it looks like your chimney is to the right of that first window, correct? Couldn't you put the second window to the left of the remaining window? Might make for a nice spot to sit....See Moreposatitude
