I need some major help making a kitty decision (sorry so long!)
Comments (14)Cat mom and all, no one's saying the cat WOULD become a biter but only there is a real RISK of aggression problems or other personality changes. Is it worth the risk when there may be options with a more certain or sure outcome? The point is you shouldnt think of it as a "last resort," because there is a real chance it would NOT solve the problem. How I manage a similar situation is to do sort of a time share - my old 20 yr old cat stays in the bedroom 8 am - 8 pm, then gets the run of the house 8 pm- 8 am when I put the new cats downstairs in the basement (there's couches and stuff downthere and I feed them when they go downstairs so they have pleasant associations. What makes this work is that its so highly routine - cats just LOVE routine and predicatability, same things happening at the same time each day. What was NOT working was just trying to keep them separate in random, unpredictable ways. Everyone has settled down knowing they each have their own space and own times for occupying the "common area." In the wild, cats often make these same types of arrangments to "time-share" an area. If youre not up for that.... do consider finding another home. Ive done it many times, found home for cat in an unfortunate situation. There is a way of screening people and making sure its a good home - I could tell you more if you want. There's always the long difficult process of getting cats used to each others smell, and build up their tolerance for each other. But Im thinking because the ragdolls are so passive and unable to defend themselves (are they? Ive never had one) that might actually be triggering the other cat's dominance and urge to drive them out of the territory. Nature and feline territorial behavior is not pretty sometimes. In my case I decided I just could NOT put my old 20 yr old cat, deaf and arthritic, through the attacks she was getting from the 1 young new cat I brought into the house. She could not defend herself and she was literally getting knocked down, clawed, bitten and terrorized and she started peeing out of the box she was so freaked out. Now, Im happy to report, she is feeling secure again and her old self....See MoreItty Bitty Stone Cottage redux; Long, sorry!
Comments (59)eandhl, thank you! This is such a fun project. oakley, i love old screen doors ever since my former decorator used them as twin headboards in a boys room (alas she never came up with anything that interesting for us). And in one version y'all were spared, I had used an old wood screen door on this house. But i cant see pairing them w my french doors, which I am totally sold on. Suero! Uncannily similar! How cute of you to think of me! Where are you? My fave is the way the dormers break the roof line. I told the GC that is a must, i got the idea from the one in the link. Thanks, KSWL. Maybe next spring I will hold a GW christening for it. Bumblebeeze, Yup, it is a good 25 yards from the pool building, which has a private full bath. I forget that not everyone saw the first post on this stonehouse, but it is probably impossible to increase the footprint and or add a bathroom, due to wetlands restrictions, zoning, preservation, and septic issues. Honestly, I don't really have a well defined use for this building, but it is too cute to leave for landscaping storage (we have a small barn and separate garage for that.) While it will have a double mattress in the loft and a sleeper sofa below, I doubt it will be used much for sleeping quarters. Kids slumber parties, a few romantic couples willing to carry a flashlight to the loo, etc. But not our mainstream guests, who will mostly opt for the guest room. I could see it as my home office for days when I need to be without interruptions (I consult one day a week) My guess is it will be part playhouse, part outdoor living room, part bar and hors d'oeuvres station. Especially with the french doors open and furniture out on the little patio area, it will make a very nice shady little area for adults to sit when kids are swimming, fishing and kayaking. It is the closest seating area to our pond that is shaded. Here is a link that might be useful: love the dormers...See MoreI'm tired of
Comments (151)Shee, I don't like certain shades of green on walls. I realize I'm in the minority here, but that's fine! I do like pastel green walls. The kind you'd find in a cottage style house. Also, and this is just me, the popular green on walls (truth be told it's Olive) I'm seeing, well, personally I think the color clashes with most woods. Yes, I do wear a lot of green because my eyes are green! lol I have a lot of green accessories. I have an over stuffed chair that's green. Which means I love green, but not Olive on walls. Since I decorate in jewel tones, green is an important color in my home. Not sure about your comment on "white" and the little winky winky. I'm assuming you're talking about my white kitchen and beadboard? Interesting because I recall you wanting a white kitchen along with white beadboard in your entryway, and down the stairs. ;) White kitchens and beadboard are classics. They will never go out of style or look dated. I've been wanting a white kitchen and white beadboard since I was in my early 20s. I hardly ever see white walls any longer, (if that's what you're talking about), but I do like white walls tremendously since there are many shades of white to choose from. Which brings me back to green. The green you and others use is pretty much the same shade of green and it's about the only green I see. That particular shade of green is trendy right now and has been for a few years. I'm not one to follow fads and trends so it could be overkill for my eye's. Whenever someone paints a green wall, it's usually the same shade I dislike. I can't help it! lol Also, I shouldn't have to defend my dislikes either. Try not to take my remarks personally because it's fun and interesting to find outt what fellow posters dislike. I also agree with you about gray. :)...See Moreanother Latex Mattress question
Comments (28)We've been very pleased with the latex/encased coil springs mattresses we bought last October. Amorebeds.com is a Chicago company that free-ships everywhere. Our pair of extra-long twins -- used as a king -- cost just over $1K total. Each twin weighs 70b lbs. They rest on an existing pair of 6" tall box 'springs' (no real springs and none required). The mattresses are 12" tall. We chose 'firm', knowing we could order a king 'topper'. We didn't need one. You can order a split-firmness mattress if you want. We had 'tried on' pure latex mattresses (Nest) but missed springs, and I thought they were very expensive. The Amore mattresses arrived very nicely finished and have held up well -- slight indentations from our bodies, nothing like the hammocks(!) that other much more expensive mattresses developed within a month or two. We're 106 and 175 lbs. I can recommend Amore....See Morenini804
