I would almost be tempted to get a piece the same size as the windows . Could you show the rest of the space and what art you already own.

The art we owned is at our home that we’re trying to sell but none of it will work in the condo.

The wall over the buffet will have 2 floating picture ledges and art eventually.

I am curious to know why the art you own won’t work in the condo. Art is not bought because it goes with a space it is bought because you love it. I would not do picture ledge unless it is one long one above the buffet .

Patricia you’re right about art. Most of what is in our house still is not anything we’re in love with. We’re actually enjoying finding new pieces.

I agree that art should be chosen on the basis of what you love, first and foremost. That said, I also think you are wise to consider the spatial arrangement. With the three windows on this wall, I might consider two horizontal pieces, along the lines of the mockup below. Landscapes or abstracts lend themselves particularly well to this format. (I might've mocked them up a bit low, but this is just a general idea.)

I went with some abstracts that seemed to pick up the modern miniminalism of your space. Various shapes work, but I seemed to keep coming back to a similar overall size range...

I would also get something same size as windows.

Usually, I like really big art but with those three windows I would do a small piece that is not in line with the other windows.

Looks to me like the hang (and framing) will be even more critical than usual here. (admitedly,I tend to prefer the unexpected placement in a very controlled space....as yours appears to be) My best advice is to buy something you love and then determine if the window wall or the wall over the sofa is more appropriate. What sort of art are you contemplating? A small-ish colorful glowing oil could command the space, so could a two stack of graphic prints (like Longo's Men in the Cities) sized and hung to mimic a third window, or a single large poster. Maybe you want something with lots of lines ala William Steiger's work? I could go on and on and on.... Who are you? Whaddya like?

ACM, I like the black and white pic, especially the size and placement. I also like Olychick’s idea of a different shape in the space. Cheryl, where we have the DR table is definitely the DR area. Switching really wouldn’t work. There’s not a door...just an open space. We’re loving the change in living space after 34 years in a large old home!

I favor something that is irregular in shape (getting away from the rectangles you already have, but not conflicting with them), slightly 3-dimensional and has some color to it. Remember that a dark piece will be frustrating to look at when set against the light coming thru the windows, especially on a bright day. I suggest going to eBay and searching for "wall sculpture." That will show you over 40,000 possibilities - many of them quite reasonably priced - that you can scroll thru relative quickly with your mouse.

I think Olychick points in the right direction. Something organic and free flowing would be a nice counterpoint to all the geometric shapes in the room.

Cheryl, you can delete the wrong post and the one referencing it.

I think a large scale botanical wallpaper there would be fabulous. I would combine it with some woven shades on the windows. This company also offers their prints on large canvases if you only wanted something for between the windows. If it were my space, I would go for the drama of papering the whole back wall and, perhaps, wrapping it around the corner behind the sofa.

Too many angles, so I think round is good [that also repeats softer circle of table]. Green is good with brown [chair].

If you are really into finding art to love my husband and I decided a long time ago to go to galleries and art collages meet the artists and only buy pieces we both loved . It made for some really wonderful weekends finding off the beaten track galleries too. We never buy a piece without meeting the artist which has also been something we have found rewarding.

Ok you'll be looking, but I'll add that the wall with glass doesn't get direct sun....? so I'd want color in art for the life of it. I see a floor lamp?.... but that might not light that wall much.
