Need help with ideas of how to re-side our new house
Comments (34)I wouldn't call this a real Tudor, more a mish-mosh with some Tudor trim. That is why it doesn't look "right" to you (or me). Half-hearted gables, the door is wrong and lacks importance, it altogther seems not graceful. If you don't want to pull off the faux half-timbers, you could paint them out -- make them fade into the overall siding. You need to decide which direction you want to go -- I think there might be things you could do to "fix" the Tudor look to an extent -- changing the dark paint in the gables would be a start, maybe adding another texure (stone or brick) around the door area. As many have mentioned above, the right color scheme can make a huge difference. My inclination would to go in a direction that might suit the overall shape of the house a bit better though. Your roof's shade of brown is not a bad one and can work with several greens, blues, reds and, of course, neutrals including a few grays. You are lucky that you can paint which gives you infinite color choices. If you don't want the color to pop too much because you are close to the street, choose a muted tone. There are lots of gray- blues, blue-grays, green-grays that would lighten up the house but not be too strong....See MoreNEED HELP decorating our new home!!
Comments (11)My Husband and I went back and forth on what to do with our mismatched home. Either change the grey paint throughout the house or change the warm colors in the kitchen. Although it's the more expensive choice, we opted to go with the latter since our furniture is modern and grey. So without spending an arm and a leg we are wondering what is the mininum we can do to make the kitchen more modern. The cabinetry is in really good condition so we are going to paint them white. We also purchased polished nickel cabinet hardware pulls and a polished nickel chandelier and pendants. We are thinking to change the backsplash matte white subway tile with grey grout to try to match the countertops. The countertops are very busy and have a ton of warm colors running through them, but they also have a nice amount of grey, black, and white. We're hoping the lighting and hardware will pull out the greys and whites and minimize the golds and browns. We are also debating onnif we should keep the built in custom appliances or get new appliances. The current appliances work and are in hood condition but are a bit dated since they've been there since about 2009. The big range hood also looks a bit dated with the little decorative ornament on the front. Any suggestions or ideas would be great!...See MoreHelp Decorating Our New House in England
Comments (17)I'm not sure the space will even accommodate that layout unless the storage cabinet on the DR wall is only 12" deep. The table would be easier for day to day usage if you can get away with a 42" round table that allows you to add a leaf when necessary. If this is not a forever home, a modest apartment sized sofa with two lounge chairs will offer you more options than the sectional....See MoreDesign and decor help for our new house!
Comments (1)Much larger rug. You don't decorate high on the walls. I would use the top of the lower windows as a visual to decorate below that line. You need larger pieces over the FP. For cozy I think you need textile window treatments on the windows (just the lowers). I would remove the carpet on the stairs and just have a runner. The way it is carpeted now is not glam....See MoreJennifer Hogan
