Ideas are needed to improve a recently installed countertop

Hello friends,

I recently installed a new kitchen countertop. I picked a company with good online reviews, and I visited their showroom several times before proceeding. However, I’m disappointed with the results. The seams aren’t looking smooth. Also, there are large gaps between the cabinet and the waterfall edges that are filled with silicon. I understand that those gaps need to be filled. No issues with that, but those gaps are really large. After silicone is applied to such a large gap, it looks like a subpar installation. Please, share your ideas how this countertop can be improved. The countertop company sent two teams on different occasions to fix the issue, but it looked even worse. I’m not sure what to do anymore. Thank you friends!

The standard for viewing any of this is standing 36” back. Not 3”. Pull back to that distance and take and post a picture.

Pick up the phone and call them back to refil the miter. Waterfall counters require cabinets that are 100% perfectly plumb, and the floors level. Those conditions rarely exist. Modifications occasionally have to happen. Like caulk. Or resetting all the cabinets.

They are wiping the seams before the adhesive is catalyzed. The proper adhesive shrinks as it cures so yours is pulled below flush. Have them overfill the seams, wait for cure, and scrape to flush.

I installed a sink in a 3 1/2 inch butcher block countertop just last month. We could find nothing that would hold it in, such as clips. We ended up using a silicon-based adhesive around the edge and putting a piece of plywood on top of it with a 5-gallon bucket of drywall mud on top of that. Let it sit for at least 4-5 days, and a week is better. No problems so far. It was a copper prep sink, and I spent about 2 hours hammering the edges to get them nice and flat first. Mounting the faucet was also challenge. We ended up counterboring from the bottom to get the nut on.

I bet the cabinets are built in place. Moving/removing might destroy them. You may end up saving the doors and having new boxes made. Then they can be any height you want. The sink will be a problem if you don't replace/raise the window, too. You need that sink for the feel of the kitchen if you want to keep the look of the cabs. It will probably cost the same to just buy new cabinets. But that doesn't solve the sink problem in the same foot print. And if you change the foot print then you've opened a new can of worms. Changing the window size would probably be the best thing to do.

Screw a 3/4" plywood cleat to the rear wall at the dishwasher; install the 6" cabinet, butcher block, and forget about it.

Here is the shop address and pictures of the valances I had made. They’re lined, the pattern in the larger one is matched up so it looks like one piece and the seams are under the sashes. They’re beyond perfect plus the turn around time was great and they returned all the unused fabric to me. Sorry, the pictures don’t show them very well. Oh! And if you find a style you want that they don’t have on their site, just ask them, they will most likely be able to accomodate you.
