Roman shades questions

A few questions on roman shades...

Has anyone gotten the Pottery Barn (or Pottery Barn Teen) blackout roman shades? Do you mind sharing pictures of them installed?
Does anyone have roman shades that were not custom made for their windows and are therefore longer than their window height? I'd love to see a photo of a roman shade that sits folded at the bottom of the window, directly above the window sill. I'm curious if it looks odd or not, since getting the Pottery Barn ones would save a ton of money, and the only time the shades would be closed would be when it's just our family in the house (most likely).
Does anyone have double hung windows with inside mounted roman shades? I like the look of this better, but recognize that the shade will be sticking out farther on the bottom half than the top half. I'm curious if anyone has photos of this and can share if they think it's super obvious or not.

You need to post pics of your windows. IMO roman shades unless outside mounted are not going to work as blackout.

How much longer are they? I used to make them with one or two extra permanent folds at the bottom so they wouldn't look like a flat sheet hanging there. Any rate, if they're not too, too long, you could have the bottom just touch or almost touch the sill, rather than have extra folds laying on it. Wouldn't look too bad then.

As for the bottom half sticking out farther than the top, the shade would usually be even with the edge closet to the room, not the back of the window, so not sure why that would happen.

I have roman shades in the bedroom. They are mostly decorative and a bit of a nuisance to open and close. I do close them at night, but have to fuss with the folds every morning when pulling them up. Light leaks in around the edges. I guess there are various kinds of roman shades. Mine are zero fuss and fit close to the edges and are cordless, top-down bottom-up. Even without the side panels mine are close to the edge in an inside mount. measured to fit. You may be referring to more designer custom fabric-y style roman shades???

1. Roman shades are usually custom so are made to fit (width and length) your windows. Eta; if you want to know the length of the shades when pulled up, you will need to take into consideration the total length of the window and the bulkiness of the chosen fabric. 2. Goggle; 'roman shades from outside the house' (images) you will see some examples. 3. You may find a maker who will make your shades with the same fabric back and front. But, a print or color is likely to fade when facing the sun exposure outside. And your house will likely look strange (tacky?) from the outside if you have different colors or prints on windows in different rooms.

If you go to the Hunter Douglas web site you can find info. The wider the blind, the more problems you will have winding it up. Some blinds have batteries in the head rail. May be a pain to replace.
