Have you considered Sheer Shades? I know you said Roman but Sheer Shades work very well too, and look great from the front and back, and would look fab. on floor to ceiling windows I think.

Here's two pics of one of my windows. It's not floor to ceiling but it's long. The shades also go all go all the way the way up for when you don't want to have anything covering your windows.

We are looking at cotton, linen, or burlap in neutral shades, as we are going for a casual farmhouse look. Maddielee, I agree a print would look very tacky from the exterior. Ellie RK, I like the idea of solar, sheer shades, as that would allow us to see the view, but block UV rays and help preserve our white oak floors and keep some heat out. Do these sheers do a decent job of filtering the sun? When the sun sets, I am blinded in the kitchen.

Mine are lined so they appear white from the street.

My bedroom Romans hang down about 12" when fully up. We also have roller shades to customize for shade/privacy.

Have you thought about solar rollers? Very minimal and no backing issues.

Sounds like you have a western exposure in your kitchen. If you self line the Romans, they will fade and/or dry rot in no time.

Torreykm, the kitchen has East and South exposure. However, because the entire south side of the house is floor-to-ceiling windows, when the sun goes down on the West, it's in my eyes while making dinner, as it is still shining through my large south-facing windows. I appreciate your feedback regarding fading and dry rot! Thank you.

Dough, are you planning on your blinds being down ALL THE TIME? If so, perhaps something like plantation shutters is a better choice. Roman blinds always down would look like bedsheets tacked up to the window.

The window I posted faces west so we get a ton of light on sunny summer days. It does a good job of filtering the light, and we don't get glare.

One of the bedrooms also has west facing deck doors and windows. In there, we also have sheer shades, but they're we got them in the room darkening option. They block out much more of the light, and work great for a bedroom, but I think it's too much for the living area where I want to keep it bright.
