What do I put in this corner? (Pics) Dining room
Comments (26)Well on the spike thing...that candle stand is an antique and rather pricy, so I don't really want to start taking heavy tools to it LOL Gad you girls are aggressive when you want something! The drapes (KD STOP THAT...I WAS DROOLING!!!) are a beautiful silk and linen weave that I purchased in LA (fabric district) several years ago. I have 30 yards of 120" wide in a tone on tone stripe (about 2" wide stripe, but very very subtle). They're pretty much in the amber tone on that first page of KD's evil link. I actually have them in two tones, one has just the tinest hint of green, like old gold would, again on a tone on tone stripe. I was going to make simple headers for the kitchen from that one and then do the dining room with the straight gold so that it would be a nice flow of color and texture. I picked up a little fir of some sort at Fred Meyers last night (about 5' tall) which I'll throw in the hole until the holidays are over. I think it's a good idea to wait until the drapes are done. They'll be lined so they will have some visable and actual weight to them, and will normally be pushed to that side since the door is on the opposite end. Getting a 12' transom rod with no center support has been a big of a challenge so I just haven't started the drapes. (Or that's the excuse I'm using this week LOL)...See MoreA table? some wall decor? What do I do with this corner?
Comments (19)I would put a full-length mirror on the angled wall, but this might be bad feng shui. However, according to feng shui, a mirror should never reflect another mirror, and I used to have this in my bedroom, so that I could see myself from the back, and so I'm not sure how to take some of those rules. I would avoid putting anything that might appear like clutter in that corner. I might just put a coat hook there....See MoreWhat furniture should I put / where do I put it in this room?
Comments (10)The first thing that strikes me is that your curtain rod is too short which is why you have to push the curtains to the side which kills the vibe in this room. Get longer rods and linen-type curtains that are fairly similar to the wall color which will give the room warmth without looking busy. Please make sure that your area rug is as large as possible because that will make this room look fabulous. Little bitty rugs do not. I would choose an Oriental rug in warm colors because it will hide little accidents, at least until you can address them. I would definitely get a sofa, so great for cuddling with your husband and kids. I would place it in front of the window for good lighting for reading but also because it gives you the best sight lines into other areas of your home. Instead of a coffee table consider a large ottoman with a lid so that you have plenty of storage space. Please don't buy a brown or black leather couch. They look dated and are so difficult to decorate around. Try beige or caramel, with two chairs in contrasting colors, perhaps a nice blue or green, colors that will be in the carpet hopefully. You can also use the carpet colors to choose pillows for your soft furniture. Find some nice pictures to put on the walls, a large green plant, a bookcase or two (books are a must in a room) and side tables for lamps. By now your room will look gorgeous and be pretty well furnished and, most important of all, will be comfortable and fun to be in....See MoreWhat can I put in this corner of my bedroom?
