What do you hate about the current kitchen? Is the problem the look, or how some part of the layout functions for you, or something else? You'll get better advice if you can give more information than just "I hate this kitchen!"

It's also helpful to know how you use the kitchen, and who uses the space. Do you cook three meals a day seven days a week, just heat up takeout, or (most likely) something in the middle? Is it just you in the kitchen, or do you have three kids who love to help out, or something else entirely?

Because your sink is in your peninsula, you will need to nearly redesign your kitchen to get rid of the peninsula and likely need to either put your sink in your new island or lose one of your patio doors to put your sink against the exterior wall. Get the help of a pro for that.

Something you might consider doing in the meantime is investing in a rolling cart/table "island" -- one you could park in the middle of the room or against the glass that isn't the door used for ingress/egress -- one you could roll out onto the patio to be used for outdoor entertaining.

Also, before planning a full kitchen renovation, including plumbing, consider if painting the cabinets white and replacing the countertops would change the vibe of the room enough.

In the meantime, before contacting a pro, invest in some graph paper (or use a computer program designed for the purpose) and draw, to scale, the layout of your kitchen, including all windows and doors and openings, indicating measurements. Draw it as is and then draw it again as you WANT it to be. Post those drawings and then ask the Houzz pros for advise -- you'll get better advise that way.

Estimating distance by the sizes of your door, trim, and appliances, it looks as if you have ap 11' between the cooktop run and the glass doors. If you use the minimum recommended aisle width of 42" for the work aisle, and leave m/l 48" behind the island seating, you have just enough space for a 70"x 41" deep island (24" cabinets, 1" minimum counter overhang on the front, back panel, and 15" seating overhang).

BUT, that plan will funnel traffic right through your work zone, past the cooktop. The cooktop should be in an area protected from through traffic--the peninsula now forces through traffic to swing out around the cooktop.

Yes, what is it that you want to remedy? The kitchen looks reasonably functional as it is and you shouldn't add anything too close to your delightful sliding door. Also, what kind of budget do you have? Can you get matching floor tiles to cover any cabinet removal? I see you don't have any ceiling lights directly over your sink and you are probably casting your shadow on it while you are working at the sink...will fixing that problem help?

What I "hate" about your kitchen is it feels that it was designed for the massive slider wall, as though that was the priority and the kitchen came second. If you have french doors off the dining or a slider off the family room, that would be much better. I can see a large window in this kitchen with a sink in front of it for start, then the rest of the design would fall into place to make a lot more sense, You have a large space to work with. I also "hate" appliances right next to each other, my opinion.
