Of all the memorials at Pearl Harbor this one hit me hardest. The visual of all those sailors standing ready,"manning the rails" was gut wrenching.

USS Oklahoma Memorial is constructed of 429 pieces of three dimensional white marble columns, engraved with the names of each crew member that perished during the attack. The white marble columns are arranged in a "V" shape, designed to resemble Sailors manning the rails. Surrounding the columns are black marble slabs etched with notable quotes from Oklahoma survivors.

Not my photo, but I couldn’t find mine. I’ve been to the memorial many times and am always impressed and awed by the Arizona Memorial itself. My Dad was a Navy man, serving in WWII, but not at Pearl. He was briefly in the Pacific theater before the war ended.

nhbaskets...that's the Korean war memorial...one of my favorites...I found it so moving.

My parents were married Dec. 7 1941. They didn't hear about Pearl Harbor until they were leaving the receptions.
