Industrial pendant lights for bedroom?
Comments (13)Jeana - You're right: something edgier appeals to me, but I don't want to ruin the old style of the house. And my husband is a bit more conservative than I when it comes to how much overt decoration he can tolerate. So I'm pretty sure he will veto the HD pendant. I'll post some pix of the various rooms, but they are not very good - just quick snaps from when he had the home inspection. Previous owners' furniture and artwork. We now have our own furnishings but it's not too put-together, so I haven't bothered with new photos. But this will give you the general look of the trim and shutters. office/sewing room to be daughter's bedroom master bedroom - may eventually become a sitting room guest room - will eventually be expanded and turned into master BR Here's another pendant I like (NOT RH, but similar and a lot cheaper because it's on craigslist right now).It can be shortened to use just a 6" rod so it would install more like a semi-flushmount fixture that just hangs down more than normal. Maybe I'm just hopelessly drawn to shiny objects! Perhaps I could start with one of this style in my office, which others rarely have to even see :) I'm definitely open to suggestions, guys. If I were to go more traditional, do you think the schoolhouse style (flushmount) would look good, or should I go for something a little less stolid and more victorian in style?...See Moremini-pendant selection time!
Comments (21)I really appreciate all your input on this! They are almost all from Shades of Light, except B. is from Ballard Designs. Here are my thoughts: A. I like the glass so much, but I don't like the top of the glass and the cord. It looks unfinished or like an upside down drinking glass. And I worry about what light bulbs I'll be able to get for it in the future. B. I like B al lot, too, but I have the same worries about the glass shade and bulbs, as well as glare. And I'm not sure about the square chain links, either. It was one of my first favorites, based on this picture: C. I like the size and unique shape of C. but it is still pretty industrial with the ribbed glass and chrome accents D.I like D but it is very chrome--and very tulip-y, which seems fussier than I'd like. E. I like the mercury glass of E a lot, but I don't love the black cord or the flared bottom. I DO like the alternate that Cathy posted and will add it to my list of considerations (thanks!) F. I like that F is a twist on a retro fixture, with a slimmer profile, which I find more elegant and unique. I also like that I can't see the bulb at all, so no worries about bulb-style or glare. And I like the bit of chrome at the top, but it's mostly white glass, and my cabinets and trim are all white. F is actually my favorite, but not one person even mentioned it, so funny!! The jury is still out, but I hope to make a decision soon! (Can you tell I'm a libra? these decisions kill me!)...See MoreThe weaving and the pendant
Comments (45)Hi everybody:) I agree with you too elohbee, the bear is small but is off-set, so I'm cool with it..I just need to convince my DH to put it lower. He thinks he can move it an inch or two lower. Lol, an inch or two won't help my case. My DD also suggested to put the weaving over the sofa..should be centered of course, the sofa is not big either..I don't want it there though, and it's hard to explain logically why..just a feeling it won't be right somehow. The fireplace is also waiting for its art, and I want to leave the possibilities very open. The weaving will lock me into choosing certain art. While I want it to be very..how should I put it..whatever I decide, and not the weaving. Well me and my DH, because I kinda came to conclusion we should pick this art together lol. We do have sectional in the family room, so I can maybe see it there, on one side of the sectional? (there's rather stupid small window there in the middle, but the wall is large enough). The problem is-the family room is already half full of art(not finished yet), so I need this weaving to play well with others. In terms of mood (the colors are like it was born to be there). I definitely need to take it off first, to visualize it better. Another options: DD's room, but will be a bit tough, and she'll be the primarily person to enjoy it which is cool..and I also need to try it first. But she really loves it and wants it. (It stays in the house of course..her dorms are a disaster. Had the whole big mold story going on..they found 14 kinds of mold in her room only, like a whole zoo of mold..she had to move out for some time so they can fix the leak, the wall, etc. And one room remains closed until the summer-there, they have spores in the air..a girl who occupied the room had to move out for good.) And yet another option-the corridor, right when you enter..will be partially seen from both dining and living, but of course it's a bit of a pity. Although I do have one very meaningful painting, that I can't find the right spot for in the living..so I thought to put it there, just on the opposite wall. And to add a couple more. To have a sort of a hallway gallery frankly I'd put this painting over the fireplace but it's too small, and it's horizontally oriented. And over the sofa-the details will be lost. And the details are important there. The art placement doesn't come easy to me in this house at all. I want many opposite things..would be nice to have something like a theater..the walls change as the scene changes..:) open, close, widen, shrink..:) curtains move as per my wishes..revealing and obscuring.. Thank you guys. I feel like in that joke: "The policeman didn't write the fine on my speeding ticket, so I was able to buy three new hats with this saved money!"...See MoreHow to Change island lighting from Pendants
Comments (2)Reality: the light you want will not work with the ceiling you have. 1) Either find different lights OR 2) rip up the ceiling vault and frame a new flat ceiling at the height where the lowest pendant is wired. You can then use the pendant you want....See MoreRelated Professionals
