Top Ten Favorite Daylilies of 2019
Comments (28)Mantis, Passion's Promise brings a smile to my face not only for its name but what a cheerful bloom. I love it ! and I agree with Brad on his comments on Morning Mood . How tall is MM by the way? You mention in your post " old Stamile daylilies" . Did he hybridize elsewhere other than Florida when he started out do you know ? And anyone know what year "old" Stamile cultivars became new Florida ones. I ask because I have tried to grow some Stamile's but more recent intros and they sure do not like it here. But Mantis you are in Ohio so similar growing conditions to me ( we are not that far from each other ) so I am wondering what the cut off time was between old and new so I can look for "old " Stamiles that just might do well here ....See MoreFavorite Near Whites of the 2019 Season
Comments (58)I like white daylilies and added a few this year. I don't seem to be having luck posting photos right now so will try again later. Debra, I love Lillian's Thin Ice. I have L. Vapor Trail, but i think i like LTI better. Sherry, i like Sunday Gloves. My Ice Carnival did not bloom at all this year. Brad, Desert Icicle was new for me this spring, pretty blooms but short. Yours is really pretty. Signet, I love Lace Cookies. I moved mine a couple of years ago, apparently it did not like it's new spot, immediately started to decline and completely gone now. Karen, Artic Lace and Great White look so nice, I really like the form of Great White. Nice seedling too. Alex, a great pic of Wonder of it All. Kate, love Voila Francois. A fan survived my husband putting a cart on top of it. Stardust Dragon is pretty, and with those buds is a real keeper. Celeste, White Satin and Heavenly Curls are beautiful Nancy, last Snowflake is so nice. Heavenly Angel Ice does pretty well here, wish it were a little taller. So very white though...See MoreFavorite Daylilies That Defy Color Categories for 2019
Comments (43)Hi Celeste, honestly , I like it and I am not just saying that because I feel I have to now that I have said I like the weird ones. I like it for several reasons . One, because it has such subtle coloring . Now saying that , I also like daylilies that are very intense coloring but a yard full of intense colors needs something from which to bounce off . Two the contrasting midrib, I grow several that have odd colorings . Padmasana , Momentum , Pigment of Imagination , Olive's Odd One ,Spicecake etc. . Many would say these are " butt ugly" but I don't see that . I like the difference in these .. What I find " butt ugly " ( well not really butt ugly but boring ) are the round eyed daylilies ad infinitum . So when I see something like what you posted above that has so much going on in the bloom I would rather have that than a round pink daylily with some kind of eye . The shape of the daylily in your imageadds to the appeal . I also think that sometimes these kinds of daylilies are overlooked because we all fall victim to " the latest and greatest " as hyped by hybridizers . These oddballs have subtilties that an in your face daylily just can't provide. Above Padmasan below Spicecake...See MoreFavorite Patterned Daylilies from 2019
Comments (46)Signet, Navajo Pony does great here too. I think this was its 3rd year here, I have already shared it twice, and have 4 fans this fall so it multiplies rather well. It has produced a modest number of buds, but that is probably due to being divided up so much. i am looking forward to seeing it in a year where it does not get divided or moved. I think it is a dormant so really should do fine for you. Mine took off nicely and has done well from the start. I got it from Laura, and were nice fans. Yours may just be playing catch up this year. I do have it planted cLoser to the house where it may be a bit more protected. I keep all my favorites planted where I can see them easily several times a day when in bloom....See Moresherrygirl zone5 N il
