Comments (24)Thanks for the feedback, everyone! weedmeister: When you say look at the bottom end of a a manufacture's range, do you mean for higher end brands or all brands? The low end of a Bosch, for example, I have to imagine would be a different animal than the bottom end of a Whirlpool, right? rhome410: I like the look of Fisher & Paykel a lot. Lowe's shows their double oven is $4,099 (for a 30") and $2,309 for a single. They seem to be thought pretty highly of here at GW. Are they a better bet than a knob-less Electrolux? $4,900 for a Wolf double? From everything I've ever read, that's quite a steal! plllog: I'm not sure what, if any, showrooms in my area sell Gaggeanau. I'll have to look, just to see if display models are an option. rhome410: I've heard a lot of good things about the Bosch dishwashers. I'll have to take a hard look at their 500 series. chase045: Good tip on making sure the cooktop models are made for propane. I'd imagine some are, but most aren't. rhome410: Thank you for making the effort to find your propane receipt. That seems really reasonable. I'm not sure if I'll go that route or just go with induction, but it gives me something to think about. powertoolpatriot: I've heard good things about KithenAide here on GW, too. I'll definitely give them a look. Yeah, this July 4th weekend has all sorts of crazy deals. If you're in the market to buy, it's like being a kid in a candy store! MCMespirit: Thanks for the tips! I haven't look at Bosch's cooktops, but I've looked at the Kenmore Elite (and Pro) ovens. CR seems to like them a good bit, and with the sales Sears has you can get them at really good prices. Glad to hear from someone who bought one and is pleased. dianalo: Yikes, sorry to hear that! Hopefully it works out for you, but I appreciate the tip (which will come in handy should I decide to try the propane route over induction). GE's website doesn't show any (unless I'm looking in the wrong place), so I didn't know wall ovens with knobs from them were an option. I'll have to shop around and see if I can find any. That's an awesome deal on that Bosch DW. maire_cate: Thanks for the feedback!...See MoreFlower Power.
Comments (40)Robin, Very nice link Robin. As a matter of fact, I do consider a lot of crafty work "art". There is a GW forum here called "Garden Junk". I post there once in a while to make life interesting there. Typically, the folks there, many of them are retired senior citizens, make these "Bottle Trees", "Plate Flower", "Totems", etc. Many people feel those are Red-Neck activities and meaningless. I view them as an art form. I used to live in an apartment building where many old people live there. They were so lonely. They sat around in the hallways and let their brains and bodies deteriorate. It was pathetic. Therefore, I see the people in the Junk Forum engaging in an art form that is 100 times more meaningful them those $100 million dollar canvases in the museums. In today's world that is facing the humanity now, I also see art which promotes recycling incredibly pertinent. Rusty, those are beets. dcarch...See MoreMy first belt driven table saw
Comments (28)brickeyee, I have had old sears tools for many years. I used to use one table saw often and I have never had a saw bearing fail. I am glad that the bearings were easily available. However regarding price: while I agree that $100 or 160 is a perfectly fair price for a decent table saw, you likely could have done much better, especially if you were willing to do the repairs. For example, I often go to auctions (admittedly this takes time). I have seen many old sears saws go for less than $25 or $50. I recently got a Jet with extension table and bessimer fence for $125 and now I have a couple of sears saws sitting apart in my atic. Yes the Jet was an exceptional deal, but plenty of people have given up on the old stuff. When I have had motor problems, I just switch in another old motor that was $5 or $10 at a garage sale or auction; or free. By the way, Yes of course the tension was by weight; from a pivot block that may be missing on your saw....See MoreThrowing out all my krappy temperature probes and meters....
Comments (16)Ci_lantro: I looked at the video. It is interesting that for all the cable probes, he never shows the sensor on the cable. They might all look alike but not even once? I logged in and left my request to see if anyone can land the thermometer I seek. Here is what I posted: ============================================== OK, I was referred to this site from the Cooking section of houzz/GardenWeb. I have had a hate/hate relationship with oven thermometers especially with the cable probe units. I would like a recommended unit that does not make me do finger calisthenics in order to get it to work. I want to spend my brain power preparing a meal, not working for a lame probe designer. (Forgive me, I am venting here...) I never need presets or multi-function buttons that depend on which mode it is in, Do I need a clock? No but maybe someone can fill me in if one is useful and it has better be very easy to set. The alarm for the set temperature is to sound when the probe reaches the set temperature and stop chiming if the temperature drops below the set threshold. An indicator can be on the screen but it is not to interfere with the alarm. This allows me to use it not only for low temperature cooking as well as other situations that I want to monitor such as outside temperature to protect my plants. It may be possible that I want the alarm to continue when the temperature but at least give me a choice.. Conversation is welcome... Also, if I can get in touch with a designer of the probe then I have an idea that is not found on any other probe and will bring the functionality to a height that no one company has. Obviously I am not going to spell it out here but if someone can get in touch with me we can make a deal....See Morewestes Zone 9b California SF Bay
