Comments (35)This is the 2nd time we've been there - last month we used a $25 coupon, but we found this place has $25 entrees. Since it was DH's bday, this time we bought $50 coupon, I ordered a romaine salad (came grilled - yuck!), he ordered calamari appetizer, we figured we'd share. Well, his $11 appetizer turned out to be one 4" squid, 1 clam, and 2 baby octopi so he ate it all himself. He ordered a $24 entree (risotto with sausage and brussel sprouts - sounded good except for the brussel sprouts), I ordered a special lobster tail in kind of a tomato-based (turned out to be almost Fra Diavlo!) chowder that ended up being $29. Add a couple of glasses of wine, coffee, 1 dessert sampler and we had no trouble going over the $100 before tip. On the bright side, we got to open the envelope they gave us in December - DH was hoping for the $500 gift certificate or even a free meal (would be around $100), but it ended up being a cooking class for 4 people. Date TBD. I don't know if this will be a private class or if we're going to be with other winners, since they gave away 12 of these. I'm sure they won't have 48 people at a time in the kitchen LOL but maybe 12? I was thinking of asking my cousin K and her sister - will have to see if K is up to it. Dh suggested my mom but no way would she be interested in Italian (esp. fancy-pants Italian) cooking class. We did see on Restaurant.com that they've added more family-style places in our area (incl. my parents' favorite Italian place) so we're going to have to buy some certificates for those while they're half off (and with a $10 free certificate to restaurant of your choice with every order, the coupon we used Sat night ended up being free so we still had a nice meal for $88 after tip). DH wanted more kid-friendly places, DS is no problem but DD is so picky and antsy, I told him "Friendly's (local ice cream parlor chain, burgers, hot dogs and such) doesn't participate, sorry!" But a nearby pizza place (not our favorite but OK) does, we'll have to see if it's good for dine-in only or takeout OK. Hey, I came back to show you this CL ad (went a little farther from home, Fairfield Cty where the formerly rich Wall st types live). Do you think this "china table" might work for b/t my windows, to put DVD player on, if dimensions are right? It's got plenty of storage, and even glass doors if I want to put components inside instead of on top and still use remote. Here is a link that might be useful: china...See MoreHelp making decisions for dinning room
Comments (7)I agree the walnut table. You have plenty of room to walk around with guests seated. I prefer skinny tables so the conversation circle of those across the table is larger = more fun! The ledge could use a collection of tall glass would be pretty. It will make the ledge feel intentional. And yes you could lean a piece of art with the glass pieces on each side. No you cannot push the table closer to make the niche go away. You need to make it feel intentional. The best priced move would be as you suggested a vey big piece of art. Like an 1" or less around the art and long to almost fill up the back of the niche. I'm a fan of MD-Canvas they have $70 off right now - a possible option since they have big pieces. You need more color in your house. The wall in your living room with the art could be a paint color. Draw from the stone in the dining room. Pull a dusty peach or mauve color. The niche in your dining room could also have a soft color only on the back wall. Chairs best not to be wood and could be a color. Your place needs some color. Enjoy lots of fun items you have!...See MoreHelp with Open living room/dinning room area
Comments (9)No I don't think you need to get a shorter table unless the one you have is wider than usual (most tables are 3-3.5' wide). I don't think the length is the issue in that room, it's the width. You can just get a bench instead of chairs on that side. Your table is probably 6' long or so, right? Then it will still fit in the dining room. You may want to play around with just putting chairs on 2 sides instead of 3 and pushing it more towards the corner to avoid encroaching on the living room space. 6'+3' = 9' so you'd have 1' to spare. If you want to share some space with the living room you could put seating on both sides....See MoreHow do I finish this living/tv room?
Comments (23)Dear Jen, I would like to make a case for “the sectional” OR in our case a couch with a reversible chaise lounge. I tell you the truth it is by far “THE BEST PIECE OF LIVING ROOM FURNITURE WE HAVE EVER PURCHASED”!!! I can put my legs up or lay down and rest on the chaise section of the couch while my husband kicks his legs up on the large ottoman to watch TV in the evening; when all is quiet for the day. This wonderful couch is comfortable, roomy, durable, resilient, sturdy, washable and can opt as a guest bed if needed. When my son comes to visit with his 4 and 2 year old girls it withstands the jump test, believe me. And, if a spill happens I just remove the cover, throw it in the wash, dry it quickly (and it does dry quickly because of the microfiber fabric) put it back on the cushion involved and viola, just like new again. We are all able to sit together to watch TV, read a book or play a game. It is a great couch. Please reconsider getting a couch like this. It does in fact open the room up by the mere fact that you have fewer small pieces of furniture in that very small space. The fact that the curve/chaise is against the far window means it is making use of an open space for seating whereas the other furniture does not fill that space as well. Also when we have company over we are able to get 5 to 6 people (especially with our little ones) on the couch and two more on the large ottoman and all comfortably.
