Comments (2)If you have a saddle valve supplying water to your refer, the small hole it makes in the water line when first installed has probably become clogged with a bit of corrosion/debris that was washing through the pipe and ended up trying to pass through that hole. First-of-all, saddle valves are prone to this type of failure and are not approved by any plumbing code that I know of. Secondly, until you have the saddle valve replaced by a proper 1/4 turn valve, you can try to clear the clog by turning the valve all of the way closed, run water from the cold water faucets in the area, then open the saddle valve fully and see if the immediate problem is corrected. (Hoping that closing the valve forced the debris out of the orifice and running the water washed it downstream.)...See MoreNew Faucet - low water pressure @ cold water
Comments (8)That's a tough one. First off, did he supply the fixture or did you? Either way I would contact the store where it was purchased or American Standard right away. Hopefully, you still have the packaging it came in and have the guarantee info. They will likely replace the faucet, but I doubt they would cover the labor to do so. That is a fairly low-end faucet, so it's possible it's defective. And, depending on what he has to do to replace the faucet (i.e., whether he has clearance behind the sink to easily remove the old one and install the new one, or whether he will have to remove the sink), $75 is not unreasonable. However, if the guy is a crook, he could have installed faucet he knew was bad, just so he could charge you again for another one (an old trick). And, if it's just a matter of popping off the supply hoses, spinning off a nut and swapping in a new faucet, then $75 does seem a little high. It's impossible for us to say. Did he come recommended? Did you verify he has a license? Can you check with you local BBB or consumer's affairs agencies to see if he has had other complaints? Unless you have strong feelings or evidence that he's definitely a fly-by-night crook, I'd probably trust him at his word. Better yet, though, why not do it yourself and save the bucks? Replacing a faucet is a fairly straight-forward DIY job, though you may need a special tool or two, such as a basin wrench. Check the link below for a how-to. Lowes rates it a "beginner's" job. Here is a link that might be useful: How to replace a faucet...See MoreDecreased water pressure after new heater installation
Comments (1)The vertical static head loss on the cold water riser is immediately offset by and equal and opposite gain in the drop on the hot water side, therefore the actual gain in vertical head pressure loss is zero. With an 18" increase in elevation the combined total additional pipe length is 18"x2=36" or 3'. For 3/4" copper pipe the additional friction loss at a flow rate of 1gpm would then be 0.003psi and in a worst case scenario, at 10gpm the additional friction loss would be 0.024psi which is hardly enough to even be perceivable on a standard pressure gage. It is far more likely that some sediments were stirred up during the change out and have now obstructed the screens in the Kitchen faucet & lavatory faucet aerators, washing machine line screens, the shower head flow restrictor or water ports and possibly in the toilet fill valve orifices. The solution would be to remove the aerators and washing machine feed lines and clean the screens. then disconnect the shower head and clean the flow restrictor or water ports and finally, if necessary disassble the toilet fill valves and either clean the orifices or change the diaphrams....See MoreHot Water Pressure is Low, Cold Water Pressure is Good. Comments (5)Electrical will not effect water pressure (unless there's a pump involved). Here's some possabilities. Trash might of been stired up and plugged all 3 facuet airators remove one or more to see if pressure returns. IF there's a backflow valve or pressure regulation valve in the hot water pipe, that could be stuck. IF you turned water supply to heater off at a valve that controls hot but not cold water, the was,her inside may have cracked or come loose or "gate"might have dropped(come loose)on gate valve. See if valve still turn's hot water completely off and on. If it doesn't,turn off water at main or meter then dis-assemble valve for inspection. If you only turned water off at main or meter, disregard above. Let us know what you find....See More- 4 years ago
