My sister says blah blah blah
Comments (27)Snookums, have you ever looked at any navy counters? I did before I posted. Some are nearly black or have a lot of grey -- not that far from the slate. Sure, there are brighter blues, but that's not what I was talking about. The slate looks great and that type of navy could too -- but I probably wouldn't have suggested the idea if I had realized the OP had green (and brighter green) counters. Camarodreemer76, I'd really like to help you, but I'm having a hard time seeing the laminate with the cabinets. You are seeing them in person and I'm seeing flash photography and computer monitor images. That last photo seems to be picking up green from your counters too. My concern is whether the colors work together. I just can't see that they do on my monitor, but as I pointed out, I'm not seeing it as you are. If they do, I think the tile is nice and would use it. If not, don't rush into something that isn't right and be unhappy until you can pay again to redo it....See MoreBeige blahs!
Comments (10)Here is what I would do: Gel stain the cabinets to a rich dark brown. Change the backsplash to a lighter color, one that picks up the lightest color in the counter. Can you put hardwood floors in? If not maybe a vinyl? Paint the walls. Another option could be replacing your doors and drawer fronts with a cream color and painting the frames.(only if they are in the cabinets are is really good condition) Leave the backsplash but change the flooring. of course you would still have to paint the walls. To me what is not working is the color of the backsplash against the wood color of the cabinets. You could paint the cabinets but it is very labor intensive to make it look right and not like you just slapped paint on old cabinets. Many have done this on GW so you can get lots of advise on how to do it properly. Your kitchen is a size size and there are many directions you can go. Once you fine tune, we can help you even further....See MoreFeeling "blah" in beige!
Comments (30)I generally start these types of comments by saying, "if it were my house . . ." because there is nothing wrong with what I am seeing, but my tastes are different than yours. On three of the four walls of the room, you have a pattern of one large thing in the middle and then two matching things on the side: above the loveseat, around the TV, and the two pictures flanking the windows. As well as the arrangement of things on the mantel - two things on each end with something in the middle. It is a common placement to make, and many people here suggest that pattern. And for some reason I hate it. Do it once, yes. Do it three times in a room, meh. I would change the curtains to some sort of textured pattern close in color to the walls, more substantial fabric than what's there, just have them on the window edges, not in the middle, and have them go to the floor (about 1/2 inch short of the floor). Or you could do them in a light gold with a foot-high red border of the same fabric at the top if you want to keep the red in the room. I would like to sit there and have my eyes dance around the room looking at the spots of red. And not just pillows. I'm thinking artwork with some red in it, a large but low red glass bowl on the coffee table, maybe a lamp with a red shade, maybe something on the mantel made of red metal. I would move all the personal pictures to a grouping on a wall, but that really is personal taste. You have gotten some really good ideas in this thread. A different rug, an oriental that is large enough to get the front feet of the sofa and loveseat on it. A shallow liquor cabinet under the mirror to replace the curio cabinet. And if you do none of the above, you still have a lovely room....See MoreMy exterior house has the blahs. Needs a refresh!
Comments (25)Well the pavers are out of our budget, so we are looking at refinishing the concrete. The painter actually shown us a Faux wood finish for the garage door, but we were uncertain about the look. Still working on the trellis.. The landscaper comes this week to help with the yard....See Morecmoyer85
