Design Dilemma Exterior Lighting

looking for lighting ideas for pendant and wall lights for back

We have a mid-century modern, but looking for something a bit more interesting than the white globes or cone shaped lights.
Front: keep above door or centered? (Will be adding seating area in front of large windows).
Back: we will have one light on each side of the sliding door.

WALL SCONCES outdoor patio lights are a really great idea. They look great when you are on either side of a sliding door. II personally think Oil Rubbed Bronze or Black would look nice

A streamlined modern sconce in front and two in back would fit in with the style of your house.

Since you won't get enough illumination from decorative lighting if you center it on the peak, consider installing an overhead light within the peak to light your entryway. Also note the great MCM numerals on this entryway:

If you're spiffing up the outside of your house, consider painting the downspouts and portico supports the same color as your front door. At some point, change out the portico supports for some that are more substantial:

These supports match the dark siding.

Sewsie- It's a nice fixture, but with 8' ceilings I'd be choosing something else that is naturally closer to the ceiling. Changing the cord that much changes the look of the fixture too much for me. In addition, having the bottom of that fixture 14" down from the ceiling would be troubling to me as I walked down the hall. It's one thing to have regular size doorways; it's another thing to be walking down a hallway which is punctuated by a low hanging light fixture...especially if anyone walking down that hallway is tall. It's a compromise that I wouldn't do, but obviously your call.

I love your countertop slabs, they are stunning. Based on all the criticism I looked at your layout and I see a lot of positives. You have a sink for cleanup near the dishwasher drawers and stove, and a second sink for prep work. That sink is not far from the fridge, so you can grab an armload of produce and get right to work ... and as you work the kids who just want a drink or snack from the fridge can get it without coming into the work L. This isn't a studio apartment, it is meant to work for a large family and so yeah, you may need to take 2-3 more steps to get around but that is somewhat unavoidable. For lights ... maybe something like this if you want something bold that isn't adding a lot of color: Huddardton Forge Erlenmeyer Flask Pendant Just a thought. Congrats on the new house. Don't worry about the people here who enjoy shooting arrows of doubt and dismay without offering to help identify ways to improve things. Some people naturally look for flaws and love to point them out (instead of asking why something was designed this way vs that way). It can't be a fun way to live life.

Schoolhouse style pendants would be a nice update that would work well with your traditional cabinetry. Something like this or this for examples. Lots of variations from all manufacturers, in any finish you are looking for.

I like lights that shine up and down and these are pretty cool

and I do love these cone type for a MCM house and of course now with LED bulbs

personally, as to the front, I would not pick out lights until you are far enough in the project to see the outcome. right now nothing here says mid/mod? so what plans are you making with the doors and seating area?
