Comments (2)If you have screw in recessed can fixtures and want to visualize the mini pendants without doing the can tearout first--you can pick up a couple of recessed can/mini pendant light conversion kits--Lowes carries a couple (nickel Model #: MPA-1PNK or antique bronze [Model #: MPA-1JBZ]) with no bulb or shade that screws into the existing edison socket, has a decorative base that covers the recessed can. You can play with different light shades as well. We did this for our remodel, and never bothered to do the formal can tearout. I think there may be other conversion kits at Lowes, but the cover and the shade did not match our kitchen. Hope this helps....See Morespacing for 2 pendant lights over island
Comments (6)I have the same situation, if I remember correctly I read a lighting blog that said you divide in half then place pendants in center of each (side) half. It should be plenty of light if you have downward pendants for task lighting on the island and enough recessed lighting around the perimeter....See MorePendant lighting over 4'8" kitchen island
Comments (0)Hi all, I am in the process of building a house. It's a modern, energy efficient house in Austin, TX. It's fairly small at 1250 sq ft with an open floor plan on the ground floor that consists of an open kitchen/living/dining area, the kitchen opening up immediately to your left as you walk in the front door. There is a 4'8" waterfall kitchen island in the middle of the kitchen. I am trying to figure out pendant lighting (type, size, and number) for above the island. I am going for a mix of modern farmhouse and more sophisticated boho chic. I had originally picked out two 16"W x 24"H vintage gold lanterns, but I now think these will be too large for the 4'8" island and overwhelm the space. I am alternatively considering two cylindrical or round mini pendants by Thomas O'Brien (called Katie) that are 7"W x 15.75"H or 12"W x 14"H. What size would be better? Would two be the right number of pendants?...See MorePendant lighting over island
Comments (27)This is why I always have the electrician run the supply wires in the ceiling, with plenty of slack. We wait until after the drywall is done to cut the holes and use remodel boxes. People can’t visualize. Even when you draw them diagrams. Or, do an actual real completed DESIGN from the beginning, with all choices measured and specified, and SET. Instead of winging it without the ability to visualize. Design BEFORE you do any demolition or building anything. Then the boxes and lights go where they need to go with no angst....See MoreRelated Professionals
