It is sunny and 64 degrees here in Kansas, but about an hour ago the wind picked up terribly. Tomorrow and Thursday are suppose to get colder with a high of 39 on Thanksgiving.

Coastal Washington. It's cloudy, 41F and a little breezy here at almost 2:30 PM. Sounds very cold overnight the next couple of nights....DH just wheeled the big geranium planter into my side of garage, just in case....

Somewhat protected by my front door, it will handle temps around 27, 28 briefly without damage but I haven't cut it back yet at all and hate to risk 'frost bite'....

It was a glorious fall day in central North Carolina. 65 degrees, partly cloudy, a little breeze to blow the leaves around. Just gorgeous. Even warmer tomorrow, although the clouds have rolled in and we might get a tiny drizzle. Temperatures drop off into the 50s for the rest of the week.

Been warming up all week, as tonight, the low is only going to be in the 60's. Will run bedroom window ac unit tonight.

In the 50s here in NW Pennsylvania. I drove to Rochester, NY yesterday to see my new granddaughter and came home today.

We actually had a dusting this morning but it's gone now. It made for a bit of a slippery trail run early this morning. It's going to get cold and clear over the next couple of days, well, cold for us, especially overnight. But the local ski hills are pretty happy.

ETA - It looks like we're going to have outflow winds tomorrow so it'll be really cold. Maybe some power outages and ferry cancellations. The forecast is for 70Km winds with gusts to 90Km.

Not much snow now but bitter winds starting last night, now calmer, 28 degrees, Pueblo West, Colorado...south of Denver and Colorado Springs, west of Pueblo.

And terrible fires in other areas. Terrible!

They were giving the times people would have to be up and on the road to get to the airport and then they might be sitting a while.

DD and her DH are coming tonight, from Mpls. area before the storm comes. I think we will not get nearly the amount predicted south of us. We may be a smaller group on Turkey Day, as two families would be coming from that area.

Rain. Here in the Bay Area they call it a storm, LOL but it's really just a bit of rain. Yesterday in the hills it was WINDY. Like wind we seldom get.

NW part of Wisconsin is predicted to get 6 to 10 inches of snow; South of that line, the SE part is getting light, cold rain. We may get 1 inch of rain spread ove 1.5 days. Weather casters are calling this storm a classic panhandle hook.

Finally got rain on the Central Coast CA after almost 7 months of no rain. Love the sound of it on the skylights. And no more fire danger, or at least a lot less. Temps in the mid 50's.

It's probably in the 40s here now. I'm chilly, my feet are cold. I have a small heater running. news says it'll be about 70 tomorrow and then later in the day the rain will start. Rain on Thurs and Fri too. They're warning those going up north for TG to pack what they might need if they get stranded. It's much colder up there and they're getting snow with lots more expected. I try not to drive in rain so I'm planning to just stay home for about 3 days. might go out earlier tomorrow for a quick errand or 2 but that's it. We had rain for 3 days last week and I'm not happy we're getting more of it.

It could be worse here in northern Michigan but it's such a dark, dreary, windy day with rain. No snow so that's a plus!

Weak sun and high winds along the lake north of Chicago. Gusts to 60 MPH predicted until 6 p.m. today. (I'd have thought winds would die by sunset, which is around 4 p.m. now.) Calmer tomorrow, but looks like zero sun until next Monday! Give me cold temps and SUN over more moderate temps and leaden skies. (No, not willing to move to Minneapolis over this issue.)

Weather is very pleasant here in the Puget Sound area, WA state. Chilly as befits the end of November but with early morning sun. No wind, no rain, no snow.......not even any frost yet..........although getting close to it.

I still have nasturtiums and a hanging basket of begonias in full bloom! But the coleus and impatiens have bitten the dust :-)

Update on our outflow winds - my little corner of the Lower Mainland got hit the hardest. About 22.000 with no power, lots of downed power lines, transformer towers down up in the mountains which they can't repair until the winds die down as a helicopter will be needed to get to it. Schools won't be opening until 11am as so many roads are closed with downed trees and branches.

The wind woke me up around 3am it was so loud with pine cones dropping on our roof. Our power lines in my neighbourhood are below ground so we don't have to deal with that and I do have power.

All of you dealing with snow and cold do stay safe.

I hope the weather doesn't cause too much travel danger or spoil too many holiday plans.

I'll believe the "I love snow" sentiment when I start seeing people moving North for the winter weather instead of the opposite, the overwhelmingly prevailing habit people have to retire to the south and west and travel to the south and west to get away from it. I don't expect to see that anytime soon.

I understand and know people who enjoy snow in the mountains for skiing or simply visiting purposes but that's something different than the 4-6 months of dreadful winter weather too many have to suffer through.

I love snow - in pictures (I have a lot of those) and on the news, or from a far distance like when I see it on the mountain tops.

Here it has been in the low 60s, but plunged to 57° this afternoon with rain. Snow is predicted at 4500 feet, and good surf for Malibu and Topanga. We should be able to see snow on the mountain tops when we go to Coachella Valley tomorrow, and I'll make a point to take photos when the skies are clear. I'm not heating the pool this week-end, however, and we have too much work to do at the house anyway. I'll heat the spa, however.

Thanks, Michael and aok27502! Michael, I've always thought those spiky balls from the sweetgum tree would make cool looking Christmas tree ornaments, but we don't put up a tree so I've never done it.

We ended up with about 15 inches of snow. Today it's cloudy and the sun is trying to peek out. We lost power for about 2.5 hours last night and just got the internet was down for a while, but all is back to normal now. I spent a couple of hours digging out the snow berm created when the snowplow went by earlier - that was quite a workout! I actually skipped my daily workout this morning because I knew that I would be shoveling later.

The same or similar trees (as in Dawn's photo) with those spiky things are referred to as "liquid amber" and are common ornamentals in parts of the SF Bay Area. We had one in the front of our first house and I hated it. The leaves were dramatic for fall color but made a mess falling all at once. The worst part was stumbling outside in the morning to get the newspaper and stepping on those spiky things when barefoot. I can still feel the pain just thinking of it.

The botanical name for the trees commonly known as sweetgum or star gum or storax (the ones with the spiky seed pods) is Liquidambar styraciflua (note spelling).

They do have remarkable and very long lasting fall color, often holding onto their leaves for weeks after most other trees have shed theirs. I have never seen them drop all at once! And they come in a spiky seedpod-less version if the pods are bothersome.

Those sweetgum spiked balls can be painful to barefeet and knees!

Haha, gardengal, "all at once" was how the experience meshed with my busy life at the time, not a description of the physical phenomenon. When the leaf falling started, by the time I could get around to doing the pickup (I was a 20-something with a hectic schedule and did my own gardening when time permitted), they'd all have fallen and it was a mess. Too much to fit in the cans and too much to put out at one time. Have I recently said that I hated it?

When you buy a house with a mature tree in place, you have what you have. I recall the city controlled tree removal in the front and allowed that only for those that were diseased or causing problems with roots or overhangs.

I was having a second cup of tea this morning at about 10:15 when the strong winds hit. Temps started this AM at around 60, currently down to 38. Gusts reached 40mph at the local airport. They don't seem as strong right now.

I had a few remaining mums in (plastic) pots on the porch - of course they blew over, but one even had the pot blown off and it is long gone. A few trees down in the neighborhood also.

The oaks along the parkway gave up their brown leaves today. The gusts of 40-50 mph stripped them clean.

I still haven’t had my leaves cleaned up because there are three huge oaks across the street from me that still ha ent lost all their leaves.I really hate those trees. Crossing my fingers that tomorrow’s wind will blow the leaves off the trees and down the street.
