Good advice. This year....I have a FULL size microwave that can defrost a 20lb turkey. Yay! Life is good!

Note: the turkey is still in the frig. ;0-)

I usually do mine 5-7 days in advance. It will never thaw in 2 days. :-)

A very good reminder. I'm going to be roasting a chicken which hasn't yet been purchased so no worries here about defrosting a big bird. I am planning to buy one today ahead of the major snow storm that is going to hit later this morning.

My 22lb bird game out of freezer Sunday.

I was never able to thaw a frozen turkey in only two days. Even a fresh one, which is often still partially frozen, is a little iffy (thaw-wise) with only two days in the fridge.

My daughter is having a dinner with friends tonight. She bought her small frozen turkey yesterday and was wanting to make it!!! I told her to thaw it using the cold water method in the sink. Last thing I heard it was thawing nicely. Hope she was able to cook it last night. She had to work today so not happening today.

I took my little cornish hen out of the freezer yesterday, was planning to bake it tomorrow since I'm off and working on Thanksgiving. Well, got up today and it sounded good so I'm finishing the thaw right now in the microwave and baking the frozen stuffing I bought. We had "Thanksgiving dinner" on Sunday at a steak house. I didn't feel like cooking. We're having food at work on Thursday but again I didn't want to cook so I'm bringing microwave breakfast food, sweet rolls, plates and some fancy holiday coffee creamer.

Graywings, I’m American and DH is Canadian. On our first Canadian Thanksgiving, I made a turkey and when we carved it, realized there was a second bag inside the cavity. Oh well, he proposed to me anyway that day. But now he makes the turkey.

I would have taken mine out earlier too. I guess it is one of those omg I need to get my turkey thawed alerts lol. Mine is a never been frozen smoked turkey. I am going to make shrimp dip and I do need to get the shrimp thawed.

The exact same thing happened to my first husband's cousin's wife when she made her very first turkey for Thanksgiving! This was in the early 1970s, though.
