I was checking the temp of my box today (with a meat thermometer) and noticed quite a few tiny ants on the box. I have 4 day old babies and immediately worried that maybe one or more had died from the heat. I prepared everything I needed for a nest change and was very relived that there were no ants on the 4 babies and they gaped like any healthy 4 day old babies would. I'm posting this to remind everybody that Ants can crawl up the INSIDE of a pole and can kill the babies. I had duct taped the top but put a hole in the tape when I added the Sparrow Spooker. I should have put Vaseline on the inside of the pole before I taped it. BTW don't stick a meat thermometer in the nestbox until you know the Moms NOT in there so you don't poke her if she flies out.
