Small Bathroom: What size tiles should I use?
Comments (14)I like the idea of a smaller tile on the floor so that the grout line provides added traction. The 2x2 trim, may be something you'd like on the walls but it might not lend itself to spacious open spaces. To me it will break up the space and make it look smaller, but I may be wrong. Have you gone to houzz yet as Babka suggested? There are millions and millions of bathroom pictures. Well maybe only 330,927, I just looked :) But there are so many, you will be able to narrow your search and find something that fits with what you have in mind and compare. I will post several: [Traditional Bathroom[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-bathroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_712~s_2107) by Chanhassen Design-Build Firms Knight Construction Design : Chanhassen, Minnesota [Contemporary Bathroom[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/contemporary-bathroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_712~s_2103) by San Francisco Architects & Designers Mike Connell [Contemporary Bathroom[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/contemporary-bathroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_712~s_2103) by Portland Interior Designers & Decorators Angela Todd Designs [Midcentury Bathroom[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/midcentury-modern-bathroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_712~s_2115) by Los Angeles Interior Designers & Decorators Susan Jay Design [Traditional Bathroom[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-bathroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_712~s_2107) by Saratoga Springs Architects & Designers Plum and Crimson Fine Interior Design [Traditional Bathroom[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-bathroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_712~s_2107) by Cherry Hill Tile, Stone & Countertops StoneMar Natural Stone Company LLC...See MoreBathroom Reno/ Tile choices
Comments (27)roarah~ Your shower looks beautiful:) Very much a look I'd go with. My husband wants all of your jets as well! A million thanks for doing the mock-ups as well! It certainly helps me visualize the look. Now to decide...for the shower walls, ether white subway w/ white grout (want as seamless of a look as possible) or porcelain/marble look-a-like (we'll probably go this way) mtnrdredux~ Many thanks as well for your feedback! I'm sure you're bathroom is stunning! One of our next door neighbors did a bathroom reno a few months ago so I'll ask them about what materials they used and if any issues. We're trying to avoid using marble in the shower itself, with the exception of perhaps in a niche depending on which route we go for shower walls. I'm still a little torn on the main bathroom floors. I stopped in this evening to another tile store and saw this one . I seriously need to stop going to stores as there are too many options that I do like. I suppose better than not finding any, right:)?? In lieu of floral, I like this too: I would only do this for the 'mat' look. In all likelihood, we'll end up re-tiling the 2nd bathroom so could use the circular or floral there. My husband prefers the herringbone look and I'm thinking that's the way we'll probably go. (But...I've been known to change my mind!) My husband also likes these pebbles for shower floor. Friends of ours have it in their FL condo, but I'm not convinced about this being an option here. Not really a cohesive look with flooring options, but certainly not slippery etc. There's one that's more grey than pictured below... This weekend, we're going to take a look at a few more vanity options and hopefully decide on some tile! Then, other decisions on faucets, toilets etc. Far too many options! Many, many thanks again for your help...I really appreciate it:)...See MoreIdeas on shutoff valve for bathroom shower faucet
Comments (19)My thoughts? 1. Although I buy many things at Home Depot, I don't buy their house brand plumbing products, like Glacier Bay. I stick with the major brands like Kohler, American Standard, Moen, etc., that have been around for a long time and have excellent warranties. I particularly want to know that I have a high quality shower valve as it's something buried in the wall and not easily replaced. But Home Depot will order pretty much anything you ask for, so if you're having trouble finding what you want in their store I suspect that you can order any name brand valve from them, including the one I linked to. But I also suggest you check out build.com, which is where I do essentially all of my online plumbing ordering. 2. The guy at Home Depot was blowing smoke and I'd ignore him. It's an older design only in the sense that it's been around for decades. And there is nothing complicated about the design: it only differs from a regular shower valve by having a pair of small, integral, 1/4-turn ball valves added as stops, and I don't see how these are going to fail on you. The likelihood of leaks from this type of design is much more minimal that any other type of shutoff valve you are considering. I suppose anything is possible, but I've never had a problem with this type of valve or heard of anyone else who has. I don't know why the Home Depot guy was discouraging other than the fact that he didn't have much in stock of the design you were asking about. That's my 2 cents...now you get to choose....See Moreshould I buy supplies for my bathroom reno before I have a GC?
Comments (9)Here was our experience in a full gut renovation of our main bathroom- we ordered everything ourselves and the contractor gave us his price for all the work with the materials as “supplied by owner”. We ordered the toilet, tub, vanity, tiles, medicine cabinets, shower fixtures, towel bars, tp holder. We had everything arrive and waiting in our garage before the work started. We knew exactly the measurements and quantity of tiles needed. The exact measurements of the vanity and tub. We had a detailed plan including how to lay out the tile. How? My DH is a licensed architect and he drew up the plans and ordered items from trade suppliers. Our contractor finished the project on time and with no added costs. This was pre-pandemic, but we did buy most items that were in stock. Only the tile had to be shipped from Portugal, so we were thankful it arrived the week prior to construction. Not all contractors will work this way. We had worked with him previously, our checks always cleared and we all have a good relationship. I recommend him to all my friends. So it can be done!...See Moretatts
