After the big Thanksgiving dinner, what do you do?
Comments (34)When all of our family (that lives here in town) always got together we would set up 3 or 4 tables and play pitch. Some would go through the paper to see what items they were going to head out for on Black Friday. and others would just sit and talk. But now each family has grown and we kind of just stayed with our own family. After losing 4 family members last year it went that way. I'm not liking it...I miss getting together with them all. My daughters are going to their spouses side of the family this year so it will be just our son and his girl friend with us tomorrow. One daughter will be coming later and we will have a game night Then on Saturday we will have another Thanksgiving day with the girls and Jeff if he wants. lol....aren't you sorry you ask. patti...See Morewhat time do you eat on Thanksgiving? etc etc
Comments (28)We eat around 6 pm. I have soup and hummus with vegetables available from lunch to late afternoon for people who come over to help or entertain me while I prepare. I've mentioned this before and highly recommend it, if your group has a good sense of humor: we keep a spreadsheet listing who was in attendance, what was served and how it rated, awards, the entertainment, and suggestions for next year. Part of the entertainment is to re-read the spreadsheets from other years. We've been keeping a written record since 2003. We also keep a spreadsheet for Xmas meals. We have a best dressed and best hair award. Sometimes people win most improved dresser. A best shoe category was suggested, by a person wearing the best shoes, but that didn't get any traction yet....See MoreWeek 163 - What non American Thanksgiving food do you have?
Comments (51)Eam, beachem, cpartist, and all who gave recipes for purée ing turkey, thank you! I didn't see them till now, but I know the caregiver made purée with the leftovers. Mom's sister popped in on the way to her son's, just as we eer sitting down, so she helped Mom while DH and I oversaw things (and ate!). The carrots, Cook's Magazines boiled carrot recipe (I know, I know, who needs a recipe for boiled carrots? I do.) came out soft enough that she could manage them just fine, yet just firm enough for everyone else. I passed on the sweet potatoes, it was one too many things. I used Mom's wedding china, her gorgeous silver, and the damask napkins. She didn't recognize any of it, but it color-matched the family room where we ate better than their dining room :) Dad was in tears at the table, it was his first time home since August. The house is his baby, he designed it with an architect, his own company built it, on family land. Probably our last Thanksgiving in that house. Time for new traditions....See MoreThanksgiving prep, what did you do so far?
Comments (58)I'm keeping Thanksgiving low key this year. Thursday meal will be just me, DH and our daughter. They have simple tastes so no need to go overboard. Frozen turkey has almost defrosted after being in frig four days, so that's good to roast tomorrow. Bought a bag of cranberries today. We will have turkey, gravy, cornbread, baked potatoes, broccoli (plain steamed), and cranberry sauce. Daughter might make us a pecan pie when she arrives tomorrow. We're already planning a turkey soup & sandwich leftover meal with the rest of my family here in town, and then with DH's family a few hours south. Today I bought a frozen turkey breast to ensure we have enough leftovers to share :-)...See Morebpath
