RECIPE: How many of you vegetarian still eat cheese, milk, etc.
Comments (19)i think chard lacks the oxylic (sp?) acid that is in spinach which interfers with the absorption of calicum or iron... sorry forget which. i love swiss chard not too fond of spinach. the former grows all season thru 90 degrees to 20 degrees. spinach bolts quickly in warm temps. i find chard a better choice. i eat some cheese and love it. the odd thing is on pizza i like a minimum amount of cheese (don't want double cheese! the regular amount is often a bit too much) but give me an 8 oz chunk o cheese, any cheese, i'll eat it in 10 minutes! like ice cream, i try to not buy it other than as grated cheese. i use a minor amount of butter. i don't use milk or cream. i eat about a pint of yogurt a week. i love ice cream but i have only eaten it 2 or 3 times in the past 1 1/2 years. i could eat a quart a day therefore i avoid it. i eat eggs in the winter but not too often. i haven't had any for 7 or 8 perhaps 10 months. however, when i do eat eggs, i'll have 4-6 scrambled with veggies. kinda creepy tho knowing what it is! i like them but... tom...See MoreAssigned Seating(?), etc. etc. etc....
Comments (8)Thanks everyone. I think I might forego any assigned seating at all - there will be no wedding party, and the only parents left between the two of us are my mom & stepmom. My two moms might feel awkward being stuck at the same table, and choosing one to sit with me would hurt the other's feelings. I also suspect that I won't sit in any one place for long. Lots of circulating (and too nervous to sit still anyway), maybe I'll grab a salad plate & eat that somewhere, then get some lasagne and have that somewhere else, then a piece of cake at another table... Good point about not everyone eating at once. That's kind of how I imagine it. Gellchom, you bring up something I hadn't thought of - someone clearing tables. We've had a good number of parties at my dad's place (he died at the end of last summer, and I can't help but think of it still as his place), and generally, we just have a few large trash cans so guests can clear their own places. Is that really tacky to do for a wedding? I think there will probably be between 100 & 150 guests at the wedding, but that includes some babies & very young children. I just came up with another (unrelated) question about his/my families. Will start a new thread. Thank you again. Carrie...See Morewhat time do you all eat on thanksgiving?
Comments (32)My family (and my husband's also) has always done holiday meals as a late lunch. We've never done dinner. Not sure why, maybe years ago family members had to travel??? Whatever. I really prefer eating around 2:00 and since I now host many of those meals, that's the time I set. Haha! For a big meal such as Thanksgiving, we are really not into appetizers, etc. Too much food. I prefer (and try steer others!) to eat the meal, then relax, visit, walk, etc. and have dessert later. However, if my MIL is here (and she often is), she thinks you should pull the dessert out as soon as the last bite of the meal is eaten. LOL! After eating we like to visit, at least part of us will end up in the sunroom, and as it's often still nice temps here we will spread to the outside area. While I always offer leftovers to take home, most will not eat again before leaving. Hubby and I often wait and have dessert later on rather than another meal....See MorePrepping tips for Thanksgiving - potatoes, etc.
Comments (13)I do almost everything the day before. Peel potatoes and keep them covered in water in the fridge. I am making the stuffing,Mac and cheese, cranberry sauce, devilled eggs, topping for my olive bread, various dips, etc.the day before, stashed in the fridge, and cooked in the oven at my moms house.Everything except the turkey, gravy and shrimp will at least be started before the day itself. My mom is hosting. I usually cook the whole meal, but i have discovered that when i cook it in MY kitchen, alone, there is less opportunity for my family to irritate me,which is something they greatly enjoy doing , and therefore less chance of my holiday being ruined,as it often is by such behavior. They will still try,as it amuses them. My mom is making the pies and rolls ahead of time and freezing them. My sister is making sweet potatoes and some other veggies, probably the day before, along with some "special" stuffing, mashed potatoes and devilled eggs for her husband, who has just been put on a strict pork, beef, nut, and dairy free diet for the next year, poor thing. He's miserable....See Moreseagrass_gw Cape Cod
