fed up with people who can't dress *vent*
Comments (33)AAack! I am a forty something who finally gave in to the low rise fad.Unfortunately I am unable to find clothing in the women's dept. in any size under a four. The fours are really the old sevens of yesteryear with a new label for all those fatty's that want to believe they have gained no weight in the the last ten years.I wear a size two,and finding a jean that is anything close to a fit is impossible unless I enter a juniors dept. The jeans I have learned to live with. This years new challenge is finding shorts my size that have enough fabric in them to cover the tops of my legs a little bit.The future looks bleak.I was in a framing shop and the owner had on short shorts and she is a good fifteen years older than I,and seems to be conservative in every other way,so I am guessing the fashion faux pas is another one of necessity since she was smaller than I....See Moremake ahead stuffing/dressing?
Comments (19)Liz, this is the recipe that I use for the slow-cooker. I posted it back in 2011 I made Slow-Cooker Dressing last year for Christmas, and again this year for our Canadian Thanksgiving. It's the "only" way I'll make it from now on. I always add cooked rice to my stuffing/dressing, as well. Slow-Cooker Stuffing/Dressing 1 cup butter or margarine 2 cups chopped onion 2 cups chopped celery 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley 12 cups dry bread cubes 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning 1 1/2 teaspoons dried sage 1 teaspoon dried thyme 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 4 1/2 cups chicken broth, or as needed 2 eggs, beaten Melt butter or margarine in a skillet over medium heat. Cook onion, celery, and parsley in butter, stirring frequently. Spoon cooked vegetables over bread cubes in a very large mixing bowl. Season with poultry seasoning, sage, thyme, marjoram, and salt and pepper. Pour in enough broth to moisten, and mix in eggs. Spray slow-cooker with non-stick spray and transfer mixture to slow cooker. Cook on High for 45 minutes, then reduce heat to Low, and cook for 4 to 6 hours....See MoreHelp with Thanksgiving stuffing/dressing recipe
Comments (12)I also make my traditional favorites that have passed on over the years but also add some new trials. I've been making a wild rice, wild mushroom with both cornbread, (a homemade basic but left to dry out a day, or a week before and freeze)) and toasted boule 'croutons' and cubed boule. No eggs. The toasted bread adds flavor without the density. So i make two dressings using some of the ingredients from the original but make one with homemade veg stock and one with chicken stock and lamb sausage. (one vegetarian). Most of my bread comes from the freezer using ends and half loafs from earlier baking. Also remember to toss all together just before baking. Even if prepped ahead. We chop and prep ahead but keep the moist elements separate...even in zip-locks like a kit. The day before i'll have all the sauted veg like the celery onion parsley in a bowl, and top that with all the zip-locked bread, etc. Toss together easily just before baking. All our chopping happens the day or even 2 days before and some sautéing. As well as toasted nuts, Salads dressings, all the mixed roots and veg for roasting tossed in a bit of olive oil...separate bags based on cooking time....never roasted ahead but ready to go.......See MoreThe way some people dress
Comments (197)The director of my children's preschool taught me a very important parenting lesson early on. She discussed what she called the parenting V where when the children are young you have a great deal of control, as they get older the control lessens as the V opens up. She told me to make sure I exercised my control properly, so that I would never be in the position of needing to exercise it later when I could not. In this conversation that means if your teenager thinks leaving the house with body party hanging out is acceptable, then you are too late to the parenting table and having a battle of wills will likely have an even worse result. As Mamapinky said, the underlying issue with dressing like that is self-respect. And I cannot think of something more important to give my children than that. How to ensure your children have said self-respect is a discussion for another time- as is the difference between self-respect and self-esteem. I am not at all sure those two concepts are the same. The goal is to bring up children who are able to make good decisions from when they are little. And Chi's point about making mistakes in a safe environment is truly key. But if your relationship has become one of a power struggle over dressing by the teen years, then I doubt you will have an effective course of action. The clothing is a symptom of the bigger problem....See MoreJanie
