I think the sofas are fine bit I would definitely get more comfortable chairs. Try pulling the sofa that is on the wall down a little more towards the FP/TV and onto the rug about a foot. Pull the other sofa onto the rug also. Maybe something like this from room and board. Ellery with or without the ottoman. 1 with and 1 without in front of the windows and move the 2 armchairs off the rug nearer to the FP

I love the sofas and the rattan chairs. The odd man out is that beige chair. It's downright dowdy. I'd look for something classic, but sleek, maybe an updated wingback.

I think the room could use lightning up. If you want to replace the sofas, there are so many fabrics out their that are treated (Crypton, and Perennials), and can withstand a lot of traffic and activity. They are easily washed and can even be hosed down. I'd also lose the tan chair as it does seem out of place.

Keep the big sofa and sell the smaller one and the beige chair. Then buy four arm or swivel chairs and put the sofa opposite the FP with the four chairs making a "U" surrounding the coffee table. Get chairs upholstered in some of the new tougher fabrics. Once the kids are a bit older, or the sofa shows damage, replace it. Here's the basic idea.

Well, my goodness! I will keep the sofas. I agree the beige chair needs to go downstairs to the playroom. I love the rattan chairs but they seem to get lost against the fireplace as a backdrop. Just to clarify, I have 2 sofas........and the rattan chairs are actually comfortable for guests. They came from Pier One and there are a multitude of cushion colors available.........plus, I can sew. I’ll move Some furniture around today per your suggestions.........and will move out the chair. Thanks so much!

i think your accessories could use an update, like the clock/sconce grouping. Maybe some artwork there to bring life to the room? a cool vintage poster that has meaning, like from allposters.com? Also would remove the lamps from the mantel.

I agree That art would add SO much to the space where the clock is but I use that clock a lot. I’ll give that some thought, though. Here are pics of what I’ve done so far. I welcome your thoughts. I’m thinking about Roman shades ....blue or coral. The coral chair that was suggested goes well with the rug. I don’t like a lot of stuff but am wondering if a floor lamp might go well. Thoughts?

I like this new arrangement. I would move the chairs closer together, maybe with a low table in between, just a place to set drinks.

I thought we were dealing with a loveseat before. The sofas should each be 18" or less from the coffee table, but I'm concerned that the traffic path through the space will be a bit circuitous and blocked up, and TV watching won't be good unless people stretch out on the sofas. I think the "L" you had originally might work better and then put the two chairs with those tables flanking the FP or on the window side to get the "U" I suggested above. Use a floor lamp between them if there is an outlet under the window.

Strive for balance rather than symmetry in your mantel decor. It's more interesting.

I’m going back to the L with the rattan chairs in the bay window......moving out the beige chair. I like the way the parallel sofas look but the L is more functional. I appreciate the input.

Retained the original layout in this mock up. I like the chairs flanking the fireplace but cant be too sure of space without a floor plan. I've added coral colored shades which I think would really brighten up this room. Also added a couple of pillows in a similar shade just to tie them all together. I could make changes to this if you'd like to see some more colors/ layouts too.
