Comments (9)Thank you all for your thoughts and help. I'll talk to DH about the pony wall. As it is now, it's not that useful and ends up as a catch all (which I dislike). I wish I knew a simple easy fix for this kitchen. It makes me nuts every time I walk into it, b/c there's a lot of wasted space, yet not easy to fix. Re: the switch. It's only an outlet, so no prob to get rid of. Disposal switch is on the other side of sink. Moving the register wouldn't be that difficult, as the basement is not finished and DH is confident that he can relocate it. Perhaps adding bookshelves like a few suggested to the ends, adjusting the pony wall, and redoing the counters (which I want done regardless) will be all that we can do, short of tearing it all out and completely redoing. I'd love to do that, but the house is only 5 years old and we don't see staying in it forever, so at the moment, it's not worth the money or effort. Hence the "small fixes" if we can. Thanks again. And meg ma--you did a lovely job! Thanks for the link! What you've done is similar to what I was thinking of doing. You made it work beautifully!...See MoreMy Medallion Kitchen Reveal!!
Comments (51)The depth of dining area from slider to hall wall is around 125"-130". The island has stack of 18" drawers and 24" cabinet with roll-outs. We did 11" overhang on two adjacent sides, so total island countertop size is 53" x 35"....See MoreHow did you save money when buying kitchen flooring?
Comments (18)I found a locally owned store that sold Chelsea flooring that we just installed. What I liked about it was that I got a great floor made here in the US, and supported local business as well. I did have to make, at least for me, a huge compromise. I wanted walnut so bad, but it would have been at least $2,500 more. Wasn't in the budget. I still got the brand, but had to go with a darker ash hardwood flooring that is wire brushed. Do I like it as much? Not even close. But I got it for $5.35/sf (product only), in a combination of 3", 4" and 5" laid in a random pattern which turned out beautiful. I got a Home Show discount. I think I got a great deal....See MoreEmpty Space in Great Room
Comments (1)Is the floor plan flipped from the pics of your living room? The floor plan has the patio doors to the right of the fireplace while in the pics it's on the left. It's not a very deep room, especially when you consider the traffic flows, But would you consider putting the sofas facing each other, flanking the fireplace? You'd probably want to move the TV to one of the side walls so you could easily view it from a sofa. Or, is there room to have one sofa face the fireplace and still have enough room to walk behind it? Get rid of the 2nd sofa and use two chairs on the sides of the fireplace facing in....See MoreKristin S
