Orlando FL Quilt Guild Meeting 1/5/2012
Comments (10)I got there a little late, just as the meeting was starting. I didn't see Gwen or Donna. Next time we need to hold up a GARDENWEB sign or something! The movie was wonderful. If you haven't seen Stitched you need to find it! Kate...See MoreQOD - 3/9/10 - Let's talk about Quilt Guilds, shall we?
Comments (20)Just a few highlights.... Our guild is called Quiltessence Quilters. They meet the 3rd Saturday morning monthly, we are located in Shillington, PA (Lancaster and Reading areas is close to our members)The cost is $24.00 per year. The club is limited to 50 members. Our guild has a variety of speakers and programs, we do charity quilts for a womans center. In addition we have a summer picnic, holiday dinner, a variety of swaps, show and tell, raffels, and as many of the things mentioned above. To raise funds for speakers and other programs we make and raffel off a queen/king size quilt by selling tickets at various quilt shows. This year we will attend the NQA show in Columblus, Ohio. (A four day trip) - There is also a retreat in the winter months. As with other guilds there are smaller groups that meet as suited by those groups. I have learn so much from such a fun bunch of women in the guild. I would recommend this experience to everyone. Barbara...See MorePix of Quilt from Anonymously donated Blocks
Comments (7)I first thought how lucky you were to get precisely pieced blocks that were donated. It is nice to see they are made into a charity quilt for someone. Your group project is very nice! Great job! I noticed the beautiful Stained Glass behind the quilt in the first picture - thanks for telling us it was taken in a Church!...See MoreNew quilt guild
Comments (13)I spoke with a lady last night about starting a guild and it doesn't look promising. YET!!! She is meeting with a group at a church that wants to learn to quilt. I know the ladies and none of them have even basic skills, half don't have sewing machines and at their position in life I don't see them buying one. When we met before (same group)making prayer shawls I was told we were making them for the community, not only the members of the church. I was deceived so now I make and give them out to the various community services myself. Some of the members told me that the quilts were going to the 3 nursing homes locally. Last night the lady said you are misinformed, mine are only for the church members. At least she was honest! So I explained very nicely to her that I am not a member of that church and I am for the community. The church I attended in Orlando had members from all different walks of life and I liked that. Here the churches are all segregated by choice so that is the main reason I want a community project. I have not given up, we are building a new community center and I know there are other quilters in this area. When we meet there it will make quilters of other religions feel more comfortable to join in. At the present time the lady wants me to teach her to quilt, so I said OK. As the saying goes, 'Rome wasn't build in a day' LOL! Rosa...See More
