So how do you make a bunch of junk look presentable? LOL
Comments (8)It wouldn't be so bad if the stuff was JUNK but its all stuff we need so I fight with it. I'm thinking about taking one of the old boards and making a large GARDEN SHED sign or something like that. Then a smaller TOOLS sign or something like that. Isn't there also a sign out there that says something about buying and selling used junk? LOL I'm sure the neighbors will love that! Most of my neighbors aren't that tidy, either. I think our yard is cleaner than some. Both of my neighbors have homes that need cleaned and painted, overgrown shrubs, actual junk sitting around and only mow or do work outside a few times all summer. A few doors down, they have about 20 junked cars in the backyard! LOL So this is NOTHING! It's just bothering me because last week I was up back playing with DD on her swing set and in her sandbox and the neighbor, his gf and his daughter (she's my age and I went to school with her) were out in the yard planting two trees. I don't think she realized that the wind carries stuff and I heard her make some comment about how I supposely thought I was better than everyone in high school (she did not know me very well then because I did NOT think or act like that!) and now look how I live! I live in a trailer but it's fixed up and the yard is landscaped and I have pretty flowers and items about. Many people comment on how NICE we've made the place! DH even went up in the woods and thinned out the weeds and jagger bushes and made us a fire pit and camping spot. The ONLY messy section is the board pile and what not beside the shed! It's not even JUNK! Oh, I was FUMING mad! I told DH when he got home that I really should have yelled back that I AM better than her! LOL Seriously, though, with her history, I can't believe she had the nerve to say that!...See MoreDo you garden by yourself or is it a social occasion?
Comments (37)Reminds me of when I was working and would come home after a stessful day. I was a supervisor at an auto assembly plant. Job pressure was horrendous. I'd come home, notice a weed or bloom that needed deadheading and stop for a minute to take care of them. After an hour or two, my wife would call out and ask me if I was coming in. I'd be working in my dress shirt and tie and not notice it. My roses were my chance to relax and wind down.. Same thing happens now, except I don't work anymore. I do get the same relaxation though. I'll step out the door, spot something that needs tending, jump on my Rascal, and be outside for hours. People stopping and looking don't bother me one bit. I actually enjoy sharing my roses and answering questions. That's what's nice about being retired, I can take time to give an impromptu garden tour, that often ties me up for a couple of hours, and still get my chores finished. While showing people around and answering questions, I'll be deadheading or pulling weeds....See MoreDo rose names influence you?
Comments (30)I often buy roses just foer their names if their names belong to my cats or friends or relatives (or their interests). For my cats: Alister Stella Grey for Alistair, Bengal Tiger for pablo Mighty Tiger Paws, Comtess du Cayla for Rebbeca Comtessa, Smokey for Smokey, Ophelia for Ophelia, Lili Marleen for Marlena, Buff Beauty for Mia-Nina (buff color), etc. And I have Mrs R.B. Finch for my zebra finches. For people, Kent for one of my brothers, Purple Heart for my dad (they died within a month of each other), Napoleon for my mother who was big fan of Napoleon's, Queen Elizabeth because my grandfather grew her, Claire Rose for my friend Claire, etc. I end up with a lot of roses I wouldn't choose otherwise, but it gives a good variety. And its not only a way to honor those I care about, but it also reflects the many different kinds of people, human and other, in my life. I also buy roses for people or things I like. Robin Hood is still one of my heros. I don't mind ugly names but I don't buy roses named for people I don't like....See MoreDo any of you have this 'problem' with your white noise machine, lol?
Comments (13)lily, I'm hooked on my noise machine as well, and even wake up suddenly if a power outage shuts it off! kathsgrdn, thankfully I don't hear the sounds of a distinct voice, lol. It's more that the smooth sound the white noise used to make, is now a bit more inconsistent and pitchy, which makes it sound like muffled singsong phrases. I'm pretty sure it's just the ageing motor that's causing the inconsistent sound, so I guess it's time for a new one!...See MoreLoneJack Zn 6a, KC
