AC went bad...should I replace whole old system? Quotes Included
Comments (38)My compressor also went 1 1/2 weeks ago. I was not too upset at first because I was leaving to go to the Cape. However, I cannot stand the heat since coming back and I finally broke down and had a HVAC guy come out. It is the compressor as we thought. The freeon is full. The label on the outside says it was made in 1989 so I guess at 22 years old it lasted well. We bought this house 2 years ago and it seems everything has recently started to need to be replaced. We will be having our roof done soon. Anyways, my question is also whether I should just replace the compressor or update to a new energy efficient a.c.. The a.c. we have now is a HEIL. My furnace (oil) is a thermo pride and I believe it was replaced in 2007. The house was built in 1984. It is a raised ranch with a up and down in-law that does not run off this furnace (it has its own gas furnace). There is also a lower level apt. that is also seperate with it's own furnace (oil). However, my apt. space and the lower level tenant share the same oil tank. We only have central air. The in-law and lower apt. do not. I think my a.c. unit is a 1 ton. The service man quoted me $800 inclusive to put in a new compressor. He also said he had an old ? 6 years model a.c. (not just the compressor)that he recently took out of someones place when they updated theirs for a more energy efficient one. He said he'd give me a 1 year warranty and it would cost $5oo.oo for this used one. I did not ask for a quote on a new one because we need the money for the new roof He is suppose to be calling me back to let me know for sure the age of the old unit. Any advise would be appreciated. Comments (15)DD same age, almost 10. Neighbor's daughter was bad influence. Sweet kid, but she lies and steals. She would often just pop up. I had no problem sending her home telling her that unless I had arranged with her mom, for her to be there, I could not let her stay. It was mainly the stealing and lying. just lied to get attention (dysfunctional family at home where she was daughter of mom and ex, and lil sis was daughter of mom and stepdad) and she lied just to get in trouble. BOY she killed me too. Grinning with those dimples, "What?" when caught in a lie. She is going to be way worse as she gets older. I have had long talks with my daughter about the subject, bringing up the old boy who cries wolf again. I told her that this girl lies so much that one day, when she really is in trouble, no one is going to believe her. Popi, unfortunately in my experience, trying to influence these kids is not something that succeeds, except in after school specials on TV. In real life, you open the door to a lot of real trouble. I hate to be that way but I have seen it enough. In this girl's case for example, I have no right to punish if I catch her stealing or lying. So all I'm doing is opening my home, purse, belongings, to being pilfered. In another child's case a couple of years ago, allowing them in once, led to having to feed the kid every day of the week. I know they are despareate, and in the case 2 years ago, parent left kids to watch themselves, so no parent to send them home to. I'm not sure what else to do, but I certainly can't fix the issues of all these kids in my area who have parents who should be fixing them. Once, had a kid, six years old, showed up on my doorstep. He lives in another neighborhood down the street. Significant distance for a six year old to just go off on their own. I talked to his dad later that week at school. His dad said, "Sure, I told him we live in a safe area, and that after he gets home from school, he can feel free to go to anyone's house." And then he just smiled and walked away. Saw nothing wrong with a child this small just wandering. (later that year, child who does not have a pool membership and was turned away from swimming in the pool, got mad, went out at night, snuck in, stopped up the sink in the pool bathroom, and turned the water on, and flooded the pool house. At six, he was thinking this way. So obviously he had befriended older kids with even worse influence)....See MoreAre these a bad idea? Have better ones??? (Lots of pics)
Comments (12)timber I saw that! That's what sort of got me going - then I saw this pic on the Schoolhouse site. One of the kitchens in the Willow entry are the same backless stools in gray, in Martha's kitchen. :-) I LOVE the Giannetti design ones - but I think they might be too much, plus they're WAY out of the budget. Those lyon stools with backs are only $70 each!!!! Palimpsest, maybe you're just telling me what I want to hear, but thank you for your input. :-) I really value your opinion on here. (not that I don't value others, of course!) Aww timber thanks for asking about kitty. This is the first really warm day we've had, so she and I are sunning on the deck, which she loves. :-) She isn't looking too hot (has a cancerous bone tumor growing on her jaw, poor baby) but she seems pain free and happy. she scared me earlier in the week when we got some blood, but it seems to have stopped. I think it's b/c her upper teeth were poking her lower gum, which is pretty deformed now. So sad. Yes!! The sink got installed, everything turned out OK. DH is at the house now, likes the island as is (I assume you saw that post) so it's staying. Whew, one less thing to worry about. :-) I am still waiting for him to send me pics. *tap* *tap* *tap* I should have just posted this pic to begin with - GC still has to do filler piece between sink and cabinet doors. (among other things LOL.)...See MoreYou people are a bad influence
Comments (30)Thanks Seysonn, In Central Florida they probably are well on their way, but I had planned optimistically the third week in March. Coastal Georgia is a walk before sunset from here and I just checked the forecast and would do the same tomorrow if I had the Brunswick GA forecast too. It is the most exciting moment though, like you said the countdown to liftoff. Gorgeous day here, too, but the wind makes a little chill and no doubt all the cold bleach won't be fun (and then the peroxide spraying). Good luck on Bear Claw, looks pretty huge and I hope it tastes better than its name. I threw away all but one of my Brandy Boys which is starting to show a little life, the others simply were much too little and too late, real bummer. PC...See Moredesignsaavy
